I thought I'd just add to this as well. Most has been said by the previous posters already anyway.

By the same reasoning, because I'm Chinese, technically I shouldn't be watching Japanese, Korean, Western (or any other place in the world) films, dramas, animation or music unless it comes from HK/China. Infact, languages shouldn't be taught then if that's the case.

NO WAY! It's great when my non-Asian friends take an interest in my culture, just as they feel good about my taking interest in theirs. I love languages and I listen to Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Thai, Arabic and Hindi music as well as English.

Anyway, I think I'll stop before I say too much for anyone to read. Rant over (for now).

Well I don really mind who watches the dramas but like u said its real annoying when they bitch about it lata like as if the ones from their country are always perfect....Sometimes for instance HK drama its quite hard to put in the proper subtitles cause cantonese is technically a very flowery language so with a slight change in tone it changes the meaning of the word...Thats what i like a bout canto,in the end they find the drama sucky cause they don understand...

I do agree with the original poster to some extent. I see so many non-Asians going crazy over Asian dramas. I don't find it annoying, but I find it somewhat amusing. There's a video store that carries many Chinese/Jap/Kor films and TV dramas, and I'd say at least 60% of the clientèle is non-Chinese/Jap/Kor... there's lots of South-East Asians and Caucasians...

lol, okay first of all i think its great that other ppl from different nationality likes watching Asian drama, what's so bad about that? they're into asian dramas it's a good thing just like what Lee-lee said: ppl are recognizing and gaining interests in ur culture. if anything it helps to give a better understanding into someone else's life.

Also it might even help us asian getting more recognized in the western world and bringing more asian films to the cinema bla bla making our asian star popular in the west etc so on. lol (just an example)

I have a white friend that watches asian movies and a few of the dramas that i let her borrow, if its a shit movie she give shit comments if its good she give a good comments. Doesn't anyone that have seen a shitty movie come out criticizing about the film?

anyways i think ARIEL LIN is UGLY, she's not pretty! =P

I think it's great that people are open-minded about different cultures! Just because you belong to one culture, it doesn't mean you should be confined to watching the entertainment produced by that culture.

I think the producers of those dramas would love international audiences. =]
It brings popularity to certain actors/actresses/singers.

I mean, if Full House wasn't such an international success, do you think Rain would be half as popular as he is now?

what do you mean your country's things? you dont own the country or the things they are using or watching, so youre not entitled to say anything. its when i have an american citizenship, some japanese eat hotdogs or listen to britiney spears i become offended. or i drive a japanese car and a japanese person become offended. its obsurd to say the least.

I don't see what the big deal is with Asian dramas. Japanese stuff was a big hit at first and now Koreans. I notice differences in stories, and the way things are filmed but that's what it's like when I compare stuff made in the UK and America.
