Writing is quite heavy...just keep practising.....otherwise you will definitly forget it after a few months. I takes time but it isn't difficult.

btw... u can chose between traditional and simplified.

I know how to do both, but not very well ... Reading is easier, because you don't have to memorize every darn stroke!

我是在外國出生的中國人, 但我能讀和寫中文. Haha, I don't know if I wrote that correctly. But yeah, I kind of know how to read/write Chinese, but only a bit. I pretty much learned on my own following a college semester of Chinese, but it's pretty difficult.

Writing is kinda difficult... especially when we live in a day and age where writing isn't as necessary anymore.. Most of the times, I just type, and I only need to remember the important radicals, and there's no need to remember the entire character, stroke-by-stroke. So often times, I find myself unable to complete an entire character by writing.

Meh... writing... soon going to be wiped out by typing :D

For me, typing is comparably much easier than writing them manually. I use a Chinese input program that generates the characters according to their pinyin (pronunciations), and I often get used to typing Chinese on the computer rather than writing them by hand. So I got used to character recognition, but when it comes to hand-writing them, I can't do it because I haven't had the practice and I forgot all the individual strokes, haha.

Yup, exactly. I'm not accustomed to writing them either.

I can speak and read chinese. writing sometimes, i will forget the stroke but typing is much easier.

You need to understand chinese characters because there are so many homophones with different meanings.

It is not like english with much less homophones.
