ok. I was planning to watch an old TVB drama only to see that it's been dubbed in mainlander mandarin. so now a 20-year-old actor sounds like he's 50. I have nothing against mandarin, don't get me wrong, I love dramas like hanakimi...but learn to keep dramas in their original language! heck, use simplified subs if you have to! worse still, mainland chinese dramas are re-dubbed in mandarin using 50 year old voices, yet again. that's why return of the condor heroes makes liu yifei (who plays xiaolongnu/siu lung lui) sound like she's a grandmother. argh.
^Yeah! I have been trying to find my fav. series and I found them in torrent, but they are like all dubbed in Mandarin >.< It's just so weird to watch the HK series in Mandarin, because I KNOW how the originals sound like... and it's kinda different when you listen to the dubbers' voices... -doh I always prefer subtitles than dubbing when watching a movie/series, with the exception of some cartoons/anime. Sometimes they are dubbed in English or Cantonese, but they are still very enjoyable!
Hahaaha... I couldn't agree more. That's why I always watch the show in cantonese. I'm inevitably irritated by the voices so I'd rather not watch if I can't find the canto version.
well.. im kinda used to dubbed series cos where i live.. dialects aren't 'allowed' in the media. but i definitely agree that the original language will always be the best cos the dialogues were written with the language in mind. somtimes.. jokes get lost in translation..
i totally hate series that dubs. that's why i suspect with the mixture between HK, China, Japan, Korea; i'm guessing I won't have anything to watch soon.
I wouldn't mind if that Hana Kimi show is dubbed. Ella's acting is horrible.... BUt other than that I agree 100%. I hate dubs ><! I rather have subs any day...
Seriously! My mom gets all these Korean dramas from her friend but they're all dubbed in Mandarin! And I keep finding all these dramas that I like, but they're all dubbed in Vietnamese or whatever language. I mean I don't mind having it in Vietnamese because it's Vietnamese. If it was a Vietnamese show, I wouldn't mind, but seriously, keep things in the original languages! -censored
When I was at my ex BF's house his mother was watching "Full House" and it was dubbed in vietnamese... The worse thing was.... there was only one voice of a female for all the characters.... Thats just wrong....:S
blasphemy! but I guess to each his own. what I don't understand, though, is why they have to get oldies to dub. 20 year old girls don't have grandmotherly voices!
Seriously! I didn't even watch after the first episode because of her acting, and the fact that I hate 吳尊 in shows. Don't kill me 吳尊 lovers!
The fault is usually in the execution of the dubbing. Of course, dubbing devalues the authentic feel of watching the video in its original form. That is not to say, however, that dubbing can't add to the original. These come in minute numbers though, but they are able to produce qualities to the portrayal of the characters that were nonexistent in the original cast member. Extremely rare. To finish, yea, dubs generally are lame to second time viewers, or with the actor being well recognized.
sigh (sad face) I am pretty much the biggest fan of the show. heck, even my parents and relatives in hk liked it.
personally when i can't download the series i like, in the orig language, i rather go 2 somewhere like chinatown n jst buy it on VCD or whatever
Well, it's mostly just me who doesn't like it though. I'm serious, ALL my friends LOVE it. Seriously! Like, I'm not going to waste my time downloading something that's dubbed in another language.
