Chinese fans are snapping up tickets to Canadian pop-punk starlet Avril Lavigne’s mainland debut concert next month. The 22-year-old “Sk8er Boi” singer is set to rock an audience of 6,000 at Shanghai Qi Zhong Tennis Center on August 15, with a follow-up show in Hong Kong on August 18. Her musician hubby, Deryck Whibley, best known as the lead vocalist of Canadian punk band Sum 41, reportedly will accompany her along the way. Lavigne, who visited Hong Kong back in May promoting her third studio album “The Best Damn Thing,” will perform her single hit “Girlfriend” in Mandarin at her Shanghai concert. [Xinhua] If Avril is serious about singing in Mandarin, she still has plenty of catch-up to do; her Girlfriend MV in Chinese is not really that impressive… but I guess the Chinese fans will buy it regardless. she really butchers the mando stuff... she says "girlfriend" really weird... but i like the effort she's putting into it, even though she sucks at it she keeps push'n at it. U don't hear about many US singers, especially ones that only speak english to start w/ going to a diff language...and of all languages... mando? lol
bombed as how? I thought it top charts and sold a lot worldwide... Damn 1200 yuan for front row in china. Lol, those shanghainese must be loaded cause I think the average laborer makes that much in a month.
kanye is better, his japanese themed stronger vid is the shit... there is no point in these artists trying to speak another language to gain fans, they should just stick to their own lingo and if they wanna back up their music with styles from different ethnicities then all the better. i think avril is going a bit too far with her stuff
im proud of her also! does anyone noe where i can find the mv really wanna see how she is in singlin chinese! thankxs for the info
Not according to the critics on the radio in Montreal. Personally i have no opinion of her since i dont even like her songs.
Could she not just sing the whole song in Chinese. If she had the gust she should make it the official version for her world tour. The way she now did it is just a marketing stunt. She becoming to be a Britney Spears. -cry2
