BEIJING (Reuters) - A Chinese lawyer has sued McDonald's in China for using mostly English, not Chinese, on its receipts, violating his right to information, media reported on Friday. The lawyer, identified only as Shan, decided to take legal action against the world's largest restaurant chain after he ate at two McDonald's restaurants in Beijing in May and June. "McDonald's offers food service in China, but it does not use Chinese, which violates the consumers' right to know," the Beijing Youth Daily quoted Shan as saying. Shan has asked McDonald's to apologize in newspapers and give him symbolic compensation of 1 yuan (13 U.S. cents), the newspaper said. The case began on Thursday. The newspaper quoted McDonald's as saying it was not fair to accuse the company of not using Chinese as its advertisements and menus were all in Chinese and its staff all spoke Chinese. The receipts had changed into Chinese since July, it said. The company was not immediately available for comment. Cases of east-meets-west culture clashes have been widely reported in China since the country embraced economic reforms in the late 1970s. Earlier this month, a controversial Starbucks coffee shop in the Forbidden City, the former imperial palace at the heart of Beijing, closed its doors after facing years of opposition. http://uk.reuters.com/article/oddlyEnoughNews/idUKPEK13453720070727?feedType=RSS
bet he has no life x,x , but its true that McDonald should write there receipts with chineese since they are opening in china so chineese is main language. But dont think thats a reason to open this case but anyway funny to hear
its not that he has no life, hes seen something he isnt happy about and hes doing something about it. Most people would accept it because they feel how can they do anything against something so big like mcdonalds if its in China why shouldnt the receipts be in chinese too
i really dont care since i can read english perfect and i CANT read chinese! -lol and btw.. how bigger a company.. how easier to sue him with big money -^^
most of the times are like those stupid demands of a few millions like againt microsoft.... liek... "ow my 360 doesnt work.. GIMME 5 MILLION DOLLARS MICROSOFT!!! OMG MY CHILDHOOD IS RUINED NOW!!!"
i was thinking the same thing.... god u must be sooo bored if u do this kinda stuff....cuz... hes not even doing it for the money lol....
its not about money, fame, arrogance, ego, etc, etc because its all about principles here, the man is fighting for his right to have his receipt printed in the native language of his country if no one ever stood up to anyone, we'd spend our whole lives being dictated to
who pays attention what it is written in his receipt? Mostly in China when we buy something at the corner of the street we don't have any receipt.
no one, but thats not the point, its about making something right that you feel is wrong you know what everyone is entitled to their opinions, if you feel he is just whining about a useless matter, then thats your view, im not going to say your wrong I for one, thank god theres still people in this world who have the conviction to stand up for whats right
