i have used bitcomet, i quit using it because the speed and since i have not broadband i prefer ddl.

the speed of download depend of how many seeds have that torrent.

Limit your upload speed. But don't forget to increase it when you're seeding. You can also limit the amount of the amount of connected peers per torrent.

the single most important thing, if your using a router, is to check your ports are forwared!!!

depending on your bt client (lets say bitcomet) highlight a torrent you are downloading and at the bottom click a tab usually name peers. Now you should see that a column that shows whether a peer is local or remote if your ports are correctly forwarded there should be a mix of remote and local, if they are not then it usually just says local only.

if you use uTorrent, they have a tool that lets you check if the port you are using is forwarded! so use uTorrent i say.
The best ports for using BT are meant to be between 50000-60000

The second is make sure you upload speed is correct. Too little and you wont get much of a download, too much and you strangle the line. Figure out the max upload of your line (say by setting you upload BT speed to unlimited) and then put it about 10KBs under. So my max upload is around 45KBs, and my optimum BT upload speed, i found, is around 30KBs. experiment

there are plenty of guides floating around that tell you to up the max connection numbers, hack the windows xp connection limit thing, but many of those dont get you any real gains, i found.

Also you have to take into account whether your ISP limits BT traffic or d/l traffic in general. My ISP, between the times of 6pm and 12am limit my d/l speed to only 30KBs. So i usually let BT run when Im asleep to get full speed.
Also never forget, a torrent can only run as much as the seeds/leachers are uploading. If there is like 1 seed and 1000 leechers, its gonna be painfully slow
Best bet is to use private torrent sites, if you want full speeds

You can't really speed it up beyond the limit of your connection. Port-forwarding is your best bet along with careful configuration of your upload and download speeds. Allowing more seeds per torrent/task doesn't really help unless there are over 1000 seeds.
