"Japan is developing a new generation of network architecture to replace the internet, according to the country's Communications minister, Yoshihide Suga. Mr Suga's department is currently seeking a 7.8 billion yen commitment in the next budget to begin researching the technology, which it hopes to rollout commercially in 2020. Alongside the vast sums of money, the Japanese government will also be looking to form partnerships with leading businesses and academic institutions to promote the technology. The Japanese minister, speaking to reporters in Brazil, said that the research was a response to the challenges likely to be faced by the internet in the next century, including a need for higher bandwidth, stronger security and a more stable network. The new network will place Japan at the forefront of internet development, a position Mr Suga believes will only enhance Japanese competitiveness in global markets. The country already has a standing "e-Japan" policy which aims to create a country-wide network connecting every networked device, whether it be a mobile phone or radio tagged container. Last week we revealed how the British House of Lords considered rewriting the internet as part of its inquiry into internet security." I already think that internet is the greatest invention in the world, cant believe they want to go beyond it. Well done, Japs.
wonder if it will ever be deployed worldwide once developed, or just like many other things, only Japan gets em...
the innovators. that's how you get to better your country and strengthen the economy. of course, they are taking a huge risks that it might fail miserably.
It's hard to imagine...a 2nd internet, an even better one. Just wondering to myself whether it would be like a back up of the 'first' one which was based on American military technologies -but is currently a potential target for the terrorists- or would it be 1000x better and replacing the first one on the long run or would it exist next together? Or maybe it will end in a huge flop because existing institutions are wary of something new?
haha you'd think so, but it'll come quicker then you expect. but i dont think thats such a great idea unless they have like all the loop holes covered. I mean, one slip and they could seriously collapse the whole network/communications system of japan. the idea is sweet for sure, but i dont think its too smart to connect everything together.
so a separate net within japans new net...or subnets that connect..everything being connected together...isn't that what the current net is now..and i used the word net way to many times here..
