    hey guys

so.. i need some help to decide whether or not i should quit my part time job at my pharmacy

my reason for quitting is that i want to spend my summer (nov to feb) in hong kong. but my manager wont allow me to take the time off unless i quit.

i dont have to quit, i could go back to hk for a month jan - feb and work full time during xmas.

i dont know what to do. it seems to be a double edge sword. i dont wanna be here all by myself during the holiday season.

ive worked at my pharmacy for roughly 1 year. just a casual part time. but i just cringe at the idea of quitting.

am i thinking too much about this? is quitting such a big deal? my manager has managed to make me feel a bit depressed about all of this.. which is why i am kinda upset

    any feedback is greatly appreciated.

if its only part time its not a big deal, u can probably find another job at a different pharmacy now that u have experience.

id only be worried if it was a major full time position and ud be losing a lot of cash.

lol i also work in a pharmacy and i love the job and im also trying to figure out how to work out my vacation next summer hahahaha my boss is pretty easygoing though, i could probably leave for a month and he wouldnt care, its too much hassle to train a completely new person, and he already has alot of staff to cover for me.

yeah i dont think id have a problem finding work at another pharmacy when i come back.
but thats the thing, 3 out of the 5 part time staff (excluding me) are either quitting or have left.. which is why things are pretty tight at the moment. so yeah, my manager is pretty mean about it.

ahhh dont know what to do!!

lol dude dont get me started on my pay.. i am on minimum wage and if it wasnt for experience, i wouldnt work at a pharmacy to be honest.. coz the money is better even in an office.

no one gets a pay rise, no matter how long u work for.

lol that sucks man, i make 10.25 an hour and i still think that is crap.. im looking to get a government job next summer and hitting the 20 dollar an hour mark.

i seriously wouldnt worry at all if all ur getting is minimum wage. go on vacation, come back and apply to some different pharmacies. people are always looking for experienced workers and you never know; u might end up getting a job in a pharmacy that pays better

iv worked in a pharmacy for about a year and a half as a technician... i just finished first year university and all my pre-pharmacy classes, havent managed to get into pharmacy yet though, i applied this summer but i didnt make it.

the school im applying to only takes 80 students per year and they average 800 applicants, so you gotta be in the top tenth percentile, which is fucken ridiculous. This year im going to apply to a couple other pharmacy colleges though, maybe even in the states.

I wanna do a Pharm.D or perhaps a Ph.D.. hopefully i can get in soon, but meh im only 19, got lotsa time.

yeah pharmacy entry is pretty tough. i live in auckland, nz and our pharm school take in about 100 applicants from a pool of 600 each year

yah dont worry, u do have a lot of time. I finished my BSc in medicinal chemistry before i applied for pharmacy. so im technically 2 years behind my peers. but hey, its all good.

u wanna do PhD? thats wicked. i'm quite interested in formulations, and apparently, industrial pharmacists gets the highest pay. =)

jeeze you have a degree in medicinal chemistry and you are working as a pharmacy assistant for minimum wage? can't you find a better job that can put your degree to use? im sure there have to be some high paying jobs for medicinal chemists.....

nope.. not when u only have a BSc

med chem is heavily research focussed.. which means it is only helpful if your a PhD otherwise you are no more than a lab tech.

yah the pay is pretty sad lol. my friend has a work from home job and she gets like $3/hr more than me and she watches movies and surfs the web. man!!!!!!

Just quit the job and find a better one when you come back from your vacation. That fact that the manager didn't even offer you a pay raise for you to stay just means that he doesn't appreciate your work. I hate to work for people who don't acknowledge your work.

i think if he's worried about the lack of people
even if you leave, there might be a chance you can get rehired when you come back

besides, if your there for experiance
why not try another store when you get back and get a different kind of experiance

Lol, it seems alot of ppl here work at pharmacies. Funny enough, so do I. Anyways, if you're getting paid minimum wage go on vacation. You're not missing much. I personally only work for there for the experience.

pharmarcy only pays you 10.25 an hour? I always thought that the payment was quite high in pharmacy.... I earn 9,99 euro an hour at homecare and im 17....

Anyways, I think if you really want to go then quit the job since it is only part-time. You can find another part time job easily when you get back since you have worked a year in pharmacy...
