well its mainly better for multi tasking or if your like burning stuff or converting it, it might be faster than core duo. so yea it might be worth it.
ur gonna want more ram, a faster HDD and a bigger PSU... atleast 550w... by the looks of ur build... u don't need a quadcore or else u would have had 4gb of ram and a raptor drive... a quadcore at the moment would shave about 10secs off ur boot time compared to a C2D equivalent... if u think its worth it be my guest... but since ur not gonna use processor intensive programs, its a waste...
well i wanna use it for a period of time thats why i want a Q6600 cuz later i am sure there will me more games which need this requirement and i will convert stuff too and also work on this PC
I would prefer to get the Core2 Duo E6850 (3.0 Ghz) instead for the same price as the quad core. Higher clock speed will always help you whereas extra cores will only help in multi tasking.
bro... there is currently no system in the world that will run a game like DiRT at max settings on high res... do u honestly think that second gen quad core chip will last u 3-5 years? Dual 8800's can't do it... and ur asking whether or not ur processor will last until games start multi-threading on a larger scale when the true bottleneck lies in the video cards... if u do stuff like video editing as a job... or need to use CAD... then get it cuz it will have a large impact... but if ur gonna mainly game and do light editing, some photoshopping... u don't need a quad core... its a waste of money... get more ram and a faster HDD... run SLi 8800's... get a bigger PSU... there's a lot of better ways to get more FPS... quad cores isn't one of them... AMD proved that with their single core FX's when dual cores came out... *o and DiRT isn't even a DX10 game... good luck with Lost Planet and Crysis...
ok get more RAM at least 2GB and also i dont recognise that brand, maybe stick to corsair OCZ or similar the power supply brand i dont recognise either, this is one area you dont wana buy cheap brands, go with well known and like someone already said aim for 600W or more also you may wana consider the quad Q6700 G0 stepping, it can be OC'ed pretty high (3.4GHz on air) down the line, if your 8800GTS really cant handle the new games, then you can upgrade
well =.= i am gonna do multi tasking=.= i juz wanna know can this CPU last for 3-4 years? the graphic card is sth i can upgrade later
nothing in the tech world will last that long, there will be new stuff around the corner all the time its a fact you cant escape The CPU will last 3-4 years (as in work), but will it be able to keep up, maybe not, maybe it will, its impossible to tell If you need a new pc right now, buy now, but maybe you should consider buying cheaper components and continue saving money so you can upgrade more often, rather than trying to buy the high end stuff to make it last
^ yeh the comp will work 3-4 years....it will just chug like hell aka my comp at the moment -doh but guess my comp has been thu lots with me...and not to mention the wear and tear i give it kekeke
