grr why are the science texts always the most expensive -shrug

aaghhhhhhh.... I just got back from my university book store and ended up spending 520 dollars on textbooks... this is such a huge hit to the wallet... i could have gotten a PS3 with that money, but nooooooo textbooks have to cost an arm and a leg. Fark!! -cry2-cry2-cry2

The only consolation is that I can claim some of this shit under taxes later and i can resell my old books and maybe get like 250 dollars for em... still, this is alot of cash -cry2

Has anyone here got their semester's texts yet? how much did u guys spend? -dead

Try to buy the books online at half.com. You can easily save $150-200 on the $520 you spend. My junior in college I took a very big hit in terms of my text book. I spend close to $1000 for all my course (all of them were programming, some classes required 2-3 books).

first year i got conned into thinking i needed to buy textbooks...

so as it turns out, i did not even need to use those books for any long period of time.... I could have just got em from the library...

So now unless im told to buy em, Im off to the library at the beginning of semester

hah yeah first year students always buy them brand new
just sell them off next semester and buy 2nd hand text books
otherwise get some of your friends to share with you, and study together for the exams.

  6. what i do is look at all the modules ill be doing for the coming term and borrow all the books from the library a couple weeks before uni starts, that way i get in there first and i dont have to go buy £500 worth of books each year. if u must buy then go Amazon as bok stores are usually to expensive, for me anywayz.

solution, get a company to sponsor you :D

I know a guy who just buys books and a laptop and sends the receipts to his sponsor and he gets the money back

although it means hes tied down when he graduates to working for that company (not necessarily bad though)

Glad I've past that textbooks phase as I'm almost graduated. Last week I've bought 2 new books for my end thesis and it didn't cost me more than €60. (don't want to count the grand total of all the uni textbooks I've ever bought though)

But view these expensive textbooks as investments in a nice (well paid) future dude. :)

yay i don't have to worry about that yet. but when i get into college, i'll probably be on here complaining too.

so are you implying that your arm and leg cost $520?
