A fundamentalist church pastor had sex with two of his teenage daughters to educate them on how to be good wives, a South Australian court has heard.

The 54-year-old man, who cannot be named, was today sentenced in the SA District Court to eight and a half years jail after pleading guilty to seven counts each of incest and unlawful sexual intercourse.

The court heard that the man had sex with his daughters for nearly a decade from 1991 when they were aged 13 and 15 at the family property.

The sex took place at various locations including in a shearer's shed, a paddock, on the back of a ute and, on one occasion, at the girls' grandparents house.

The man told the court the sex was not about fulfilling his desires but about teaching his daughters how to behave for their husbands when they eventually married, as dictated in scripture.

In sentencing, Judge David Lovell said the misrepresentation of scripture used to justify the abuse of the girls "defied belief", and that he had "hypocritically betrayed" his religion and principles.

"You said the acts were about learning about sex rather than engaging in the acts of sex," Judge Lovell said.

    "I do not accept that.

"You treated your daughters as your property ... using them to satisfy and gratify your sexual urges."

Judge Lovell gave full credit for the man's guilty pleas, saying he was genuinely remorseful and had a good chance of rehabilitation as his wife and the church remained supportive.

The man will be eligible for parole in four years.

Thats the problem with humans. Always twisting the scriptures with their own "ideology". He shouldnt call himself a pastor and the church "church". The name "cult" is more appropriate. -dead

red-neck types? -huh care to elaborate? <_<

what if the church is actually a church? and the pastor's "ideology" is just of his own twisted mind? and what they're supporting is not the pastor's actions but supporting him so that he'll make a full recovery (from this sick perspective)? i'm reminded of ted haggard and how he cheated on his wife yet his family is still behind him. for what? not because of his actions but because he (as a person) is a father and a husband.

and so with that being said, i hope no one takes this as another "Oh, look at those Christians, always..." blah blah blah. please just.. don't start. judge the man; not his beliefs.

Supportive to his recovery is fine, i have no problem with that. However, think, he WAS the pastor. Wouldnt it be ironic that he teaches one thing in church and another in his own home? That would mean that he's a hypocrite no? Granted that ppl do make mistakes, but honestly, as a pastor the *role model* to be doing this is quite detrimental to the ppl attending his sermons.

Cases like this brings out the phrase "lock him up and throw away the key". I cannot believe that he may actually get a parole in any foreseeable future.

I would think it's quite difficult to be okay... I just hope their respective shrinks are paid for.

  19. If the father got away with it i would say they would be a 90% chance that the daughters would sleep with their sons thinking they are teaching them how to please their wives. eww
