Cate Blanchett is a ridiculously good actress, probably worth seeing just for her performance

I know, I loved her in Elizabeth and was SO upset she didn't get the Oscar (lost to Gwyneth Paltrow in Shakespear in Love, ugh!)

cate blanchett was good in aviator, i don't really know what Katharine Hepburn's personality is like so i don't know how accurate her portrayal was but according to critics it was really close.

I don't know why, but everyday I get more excited about the Jesse James film.

Its pretty close to American Gangster for my list of most anticipated movies of the year.

^hopefully t.i.'s part is not important in American Gangster lol, but Denzel is always good so i want to see it too...

^ +Russel Crowe

Characters like the one Denzel plays appeal to me. You know they're the bad guy, but you start to understand his reasons. I always liked ambiguous characters/

Rendition seems to be getting some bad reviews at the T.O. film festival.

I've heard that too... But nothing can quite stop me from hitting on Jake Gyllehaal so I am sure I will end up seeing the film, probably not at TIFF though.

And yeah, Michael Clayton? So far I have NOT heard a single BAD review (not sure about professional critics, but from actually hearing about it, from real people who saw the film...)

Same. I didn't expect much from this movie at first, but I just might end up watching it.

Today is one of those insane days when I get my cinephilia dose... 4 films in a single day...

Persepolis is an animated adaptation of Iranian comic book of the same name by Marjane Satrapi... Awesome 2-D graphics, great (and timely) storyline with mesmerizing score... And it's in French!

Terra is a cliche animation wrapped in a bunch of cliches... Done terribly. Nothing is quite original in the entire film, from the setting to the storyline to the music, which was sheer lameness... Quite a disappointment if you ask me, although I got free reserved tickets when I was waiting in line... No trailer BTW. This came as an afterthought, but Justin Long was at the screening as he provided the voice of one of the minor characters. I guess that CAN be said to be a plus -rolleyes

Followed by yet another big name Eastern Promises, David Cronenberg, Viggo Mortensen, Naomi Watts and Vincent Cassel were there at the screening, so that's a plus. The film was kind of weak on a Cronenberg scale, the tension was not very forthcoming, the build-up became so overwhelmingly long it got almost boring. It was a sheer disappointment. Did I mention I saw many of the cast and Cronenberg himself? That's the one single plus I can think of for this film at the moment... History of Violence, another film with Mortensen by Cronenberg, was much better made...

Last film of the day, by then I was pretty exhausted: American Venus, Canadian film exploring addiction (of a less depicted kind) and cultural shock of an American in Canada... A lot of stereotypings but lead actress Rebecca De Mornay and supporting actress Jane McGregor were quite convincingly awesome (although the level of tension is NOTHING comparing to Lust Caution) and the script was written with wit and nicely executed despite the low budget -^_^ But alas, no trailer (that's one thing with Canadian films... can't quite find them on YouTube unless it got big)

And the shows go on... for another week...

Lars and the Real Girl... Looks EXTREMELY interesting... That Angelina Jolie doll? Simply intriguing if you ask me.

Trust me, during the festival, my so-called life consists of endlessly waiting in line in hope to get a ticket (long story)... Not sure if I should be glad or pity myself for it...

And also, there are tons of screenings during the weekends and nights, so it shouldn't be THAT difficult to go -^_^

Die Fälscher, a German film about a forger being deported to Sachsenhausen but the Nazi's want him to forge foreign money which puts him in a morel dilemma;
if he (Sorowitsch) doesn't do a proper job he'll get killed but if he does help them the false money probably will prolonge the war, helping the Nazi's win the war. If the forgers save their own lives first, they'll risk a lot of other people's lives...sounds interesting to me.
(couldn't find a trailer)

Yep, that's the same! :)
The actor who plays Sorowitsch is over here mostly known as a detective in the Austrian serie 'Commisaris Rex'. (I used to love that serie and recognizing a familiar face is one of the reasons I wanted to see this film)

OH! I am surely going to keep an eye if this is available in the D/L section...

Talking about series, do you know Ulrich Mühe (of The Lives of Others fame)??? I REALLY want to see his series called Der Letzte Zeuge (The Last witness)... Do you know anything about it??? Apparently it is VERY renowned in Germany, I just mention it because you were talking about Commisaris Rex...
