DUBAI (AFP) - The world's tallest building, still under construction in the booming Gulf emirate of Dubai, has become the world's tallest free-standing structure, its developers said on Thursday. The Burj Dubai tower is now 555 metres (1,831.5 feet) tall and has surpassed the 553-metre- (1,824.9-feet) CN Tower in Toronto, Canada, which held the record for the world's tallest free-standing structure since 1976, developers Emaar Properties said in a statement. The skyscraper, being built by South Korea's Samsung and set for completion at the end of next year, is one of several mega projects taking shape in Dubai, which is part of the United Arab Emirates. The statement did not reveal the tower's final projected height or its final number of storeys, which Emaar has kept secret since launching the project in January 2004. The developer announced in July that Burj Dubai, Arabic for Dubai Tower, had exceeded Taiwan's Taipei 101 which is 508 metres (1,676.4 feet) tall, to become the tallest building in the world. >.< Original Article + Pics + Video When complete the tower will planned to be 808 meters The building is so gonna light up at night and make us look weak =/ Asia is getting rich im sure this building wont last more then 10 years , they are always building to compete and dethrone each other.
Hahaha...2 metres....thats nasty....but....seriously...i really wanna go to dubai ... theyve got so many cool buildings and islands....like that one in the shape of a palm...thats over there too right?
When complete the tower will be 808 meters -shock dubai is mega building the city be4 their oil runs out so it can stabalize itself like las vegas , 10-20 years ago it was a pile of rubbish. They've got alot of cool buidlings.
no shariar law? I wouldn't want to go somewhere where you can't do a lot of things...I will stick out like a sore thumb. politicians in oil rich countries are practically giving their money away like in Saudi Arabia where they you a stipend for being born, getting married, and even land to build your home...
if u all climbed on top of each other that would do it , we get missangiecheeks on knocs shoulders holding a pa flag while dan takes all the weight.
lol yea, but she said "one" hahaha anyways, one day, all of the sky scrapers will be twice the cn tower lol and plus.. cn is a rip.. its restaurant "360" is over priced, and the food isnt great...
Been a 3rd year civil engineering student and a person who love heights, this makes me wanna goto dubai so much more to check out the building. I was lucky enough to goto toronto this summer to go on the cn tower and I been to the one in taiwan also. Dubai does have the largest free standing structure but what I love about the CN tower was the see through glass that they have at the bottem of the floor. 3 metre in height is a lot in the design of structural building but having glass floor amazed me even more.
I thought Dubai is in the Emirates... Middle East? Never knew it's considered Asia... -unsure Learn something new everyday -^_^
But what is the point of having the highest tower in the world?? Surely what goes up must come down??
Well...i think ur able to do stuff there....like riding a quad in the desert, shopping, checking out buildings and should be many more as lots of tourists are going there now.... Ang just gave u the perfect solution hahaha....
