Just talk about any movies that pop up on your mind (Doesn't have to be most recent one you've seen) or also rate it...introduce or turn off people from certain movies lols... Please don't post Spoilers... Rating: 0= the lowest 5=highest, you can use decimals... My first movie: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0317248/ City of Gods Damn this movie was just absolutely awesome. It shows a City that if you were born in it, you were destined to Die, end of story. It's seriously a Dog eat Dog world there i mean there are kids killing people and then taking over as the leader and shit. The story focuses mainly on 2 characters Lil Ze and Rocket, the movie shows the growth of these characters and how they develop into the person they've become. Rocket is the more conservative guy and he doesn't become a typical gangster like everyone else in the City of God instead he takes the Camera to show images of the "activity" in City of God and Lil Ze becomes the heartless gangster but he has one friend that he respect, his childhood sidekick Benny. Lil Ze shows how clueless these kids where about what they were doing. They think that being gangster is a luxurious life and that they are the top of the world (there's a scene where they actually pose for the camera after they kill). The Movie shows the murders and takeovers like it was a continuous life cycle that never stops, with the scenes that includes the children getting murdered or children murdering people to be the most intense. I give it a 5...-clapclap
The Bourne Ultimatum 5/5 The third and possibly best installment to the Bourne series is nothing, but marvelous. The film never lets up on the action. The shaky cam works to its advantage and so do the actors. By far the best action movie of the year. The Lookout 4/5 When you watch the trailer for this film, you expect some pointless action film. But that's not what you get. The film has a fascinating character arc that prevents you from looking away at the screen, cause you're so deep into the character's mind. Even if this film dosen't have the same amount as action as say "Die Hard." It doesn't matter. The thrilling and interesting character arc will leave you satisfied. Breach 3.5/5 The film fails to entice you like other films, but you can't deny the wonderful performance by Chris Cooper. He plays Robert Hansen. A double agent in the F.B.I. Arguably one of the greatest security breaches in American history. In the movie he is portrayed as not only the bad guy, but he has traits of a loyal man. Cooper does an excellent job of portraying the loyal, but possibly evil Hansen. A great ambiguous character, done by a great actor. I'll post more later lol. I do a lot of these on other sites EDIT: But couldn't we do this in the last movie you watched thread? Oh well who cares
^ yes you can but the title "Last Movie you watch" maybe limits people to talk about the latest movies lol @hiake, you thanked me? Is this gonna be your playground lol...
City of God is one of those films that I wanted to see for ages, and never get around to see it... :( Here's mine... some TIFF screenings... Young People F*cking, 3.5/5 A low-budget sex-driven comedy done right. The script was funny and not cliche (thankfully) and, while the sexual intercourse(s) is an integral part of the film, it was the awkwardness in unlikely situations which got the audiences laughing. Not sure if it's the best comedy, but definitely worth watching. Lust, Caution 5.5/5... hmmm, I mean, 5/5 Renowned director Ang Lee, of Couching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and Brokeback Mountain's fame, delivered yet another strong drama starring Asian heartthrob Tony Leung and newcomer Tang Wei. It is unbelievable that Ang Lee casted Tang Wei in the leading role as she was in fact a graduate of the directing department of the Central Academy of Drama in Beijing. On the unaccustomed end of the lens, Tang Wei was as sensual and smooth as a serpent, even in sex scenes. This leading role will not only raise Tang Wei to international stardom shared by Zhang Ziyi and Gong Li, it is very likely to be the role of her lifetime too. Persepolis, 4.5/5 Animated adaptation of famed Iranian graphic novel of the same name, it is true to the original in both its style and its storytelling. It was a heart-breaking coming-of-age story of an Iranian girl. The emotional was overwhelming, and the audience feel for the loss and disillusionment of the protagonist. That's what I would call good animation. PS> I think I am going to thank everyone who put the effort to write up a review instead of "OMG that's the best film of the year/decade/century" or something -tongue2
Transformers 2.5/5 I never expected much from this movie, and when I went to go watch I found out why. Even though this movie lacks acting skills and plot it still has one good aspect to it. The CG. The CG was well done and the action scenes were enjoyable, but the rest of the movie.... Not so much. Rush Hour 3 1.5/5 Another Brett Ratner flop. Re-used jokes, below average acting, lack of action, and horribly script. I have nothing positive to say about this movie at all. The only reason it got the extra .5 was because it might be the last installment to the franchise. If you've watch any of the last 2 Rush Hour films then avoid this one. No point in watching this at all. Sunshine 3.5/5 In the movie the sun is dying and earth sends this ship to space as their last hope. The ship contains a bomb that is suppose to make a star withing the star. The movie is visually stunning and thrilling. It might not be able to compete with other sci-fi greats, but its defiantly worth the watch. Hmm not my best reviews but w/e lol
Terra, 1.5/5 It is possibly the worst film I have seen at TIFF. I cannot help but question why such lackluster piece of pseudo-film can land itself a gala (with 1600+ seatings at Roy Thomson Hall). Cliche us vs. them story, uncreative design of characters, and boring score (that's a sin, IMO) Eastern Promises, 2.5/5 The one most overrated film of the entire TIFF. I cannot understand what is the big fuss about it. The last release of the Cronenberg-Mortensen partnership, History of Violence, was a MUCH better film than this one. I mean, really, this film lacks a point. Though I must confess that the steamroom scene is one that is utterly unforgettable... American Venus, 4/5 Another Canadian gem. The story is simple but the built-up was fantastic, if I didn't see Lust Caution the night before, I would have given it a MUCH higher mark as the lead actress did an awesome job with her edgy insecure persona. It also demostrated certain US-Canada stereotyping which cracked up the audience for its absurdity.
LOL, here's my take on Transformers, 3.5/5 It's not a meaningful film, I know full well when I step into the cinema. If I want to see a meaningful film, I would avoid an action film (as most of them lack meaning, seriously). As an action film, it served its purpose, entertain without much ado (or pointless preaching). The lack of acting skill demostrated in the film was least of my problems... I got too carry away with the CGI. This film proved that, do what you do best and you'll do it right (and some people, like me, will forgive everything else).
Forgiveness is overrated lol I'm basically the only person in my group of friends that disliked the film
LOL, me, on the other hand, is the only person in MY group who liked (and obsess over) the film. Perhaps we should switch our group of friends in regards to Transformers -tongue2
Let's Review an old movie that i just watched this year lol Fallen Angels Wow, this is definitely my most memorable Wong Kar Wai Movie so far, the cinematography is just breathtaking, i love how he uses the neon colors in his movies, it really sets the mood. The opening scene of this movie was perfectly shot with the music, i could literally watch the scene over and over (the scene with leon lai going in and shooting up people). The show stealer was Takeshi Kaneshiro as he was not just speaking with words but deep emotion, some parts were funny as hell but some really show his deep character emotions. Leon Lai's character was weird though, didn't like him too much. Michelle Reis had like the sexiest shot scene with the slow smoking and jukebox and the music was went with it like butter. The ending was kinda complicated for me though... I give it a 4.4/5 My Take on Transformers The most entertaining cartoon to movie adaption this year so far for me. From the beginning to the end i enjoyed this movie. Some of the seen cause me to have a geekiness feeling lol. There are problems with this movie though like how Megatron didn't have enough scenes and also some of the robot characters weren't too interesting. Also some of the jokes just didn't work, like the president one i thought that was stupid, too obvious. The action scenes and the animations are amazing though definitely could tell it's a big budget movie. All together it's a very enjoyable summer blockbuster, makes you feel like a kid again... I give it a 4/5 Ocean's 13 This is one of the movies that you won't really get unless you've seen the other two. I went with friends who didn't watch the other two and they were clueless and didn't get alot of the jokes. This movie was average to me though since the main characters didn't really shine here and the side characters getting more scenes to make funny jokes. Casey Affleck and Scott Caan stands out here, the "strike" scenes were funny as hell. And i also expected more from Al Pacino. Overall it's an ok movie, if you enjoyed the first 2, you can choose to watch this if you want to, it doesn't really tie up the plot or relate to the previous one too much (missing the 2 female leads) but you if you want to get the jokes you have to watch the first two. I give it a 3.2/5 @khaotic, just watch transformers with your brain off and drool over the effects like i did lol, it works...
You are right, I take that back. I don't really want to hang out with a bunch of teenagers -tongue2 I personally preferred Chungking Express, probably because I liked Tony Leung, Faye Wong and Brigitte Lin. Fallen Angels was good, but the different plots were a bit too fragmented to my taste, though I really liked the interaction between Leon Lai and Karen Mok in the McDonald's (not to mention Michelle Reis' stalker-ish behaviour), I would personally give it a 4.5/5, since it is as well made as any other work of Wong Kar-Wai. And I simply ADORE the song at the ending of the film... "Only You" by Flying Pickets. That's exactly what I did... afterall, an action film is an action film, I don't expect them to put much thought about it...
^ chungking express was ok to me lol, faye wong was freaky in there. i like a little action in my movie or for it to have a darker atmosphere though. Damn now you mentioned the movie that "California Dreaming" song justs pops up in my head lol... and his other movie "In the Mood For Love" i think that was kinda overrated, it's good but not his best...
In the Mood for Love, IMHO, was all about Maggie Cheung's cheongsam(s)... I can see little else besides that. Of course, Christopher Doyle worked magic with cinematography, as usual, but I do agree that it was somewhat overrated...
Can you teach me how to turn my brain off? -tongue2 Heres more reviews! Superhero edition -cool Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer 1.5/5 They take the failure of the first movie and do nothing to improve on it. The problem with the first movie is that the characters were just there for show. They did nothing else with them, except show you their powers. Unfortunately the same problem exists in this sequel. The characters still have no substance to them at all. Not to mention the Silver Surfer arc was horribly done. The movie doesn't even have decent action scenes. The final fight was extremely anti-climatic. Superhero movies don't need to be like this. They can become great films, if you just take the time. Basically you should avoid this movie at all cost. Superman Returns 3/5 The movie is is good start to bringing the beloved franchise back. However it honestly feels like you've already watched the whole movie. It borrows a lot of stuff from the first Superman film, but I did like the fact that Superman had _________(If you watched it you know what I mean). I'm pretty fascinated on what they'll do with that. Overall the movie is average. Its just to similar to the first Superman movie. Spider-Man 3 2.5/5 The third installment to this franchise(which I love!) was a total disappointment. The character arcs weren't interesting, and the plot was filled with cliches (The last part specifically). Hopefully the 4th installment will be much better. *Hears hoping for lizard*
^ i watched 2046 before mood for love and i watched it and i was like....oooooooooooooooooohhh, but i kinda expected a little more, it's a heartbreaking deep ass love story right for tony leung to turn like that lol... @khaotic, do you ever enjoy jackie chan martial arts movie and all that lol, or you probably could be drugged lol...
I enjoy his Hong Kong movies, but not his Hollywood ones. Other martial arts films I enjoyed were Fearless and Hero. But Hero really pissed me off with the ending.......... It was communist propaganda if I ever saw it. I might write reviews for them later
^ Lols those are like "thinking man's martial arts" movies though lol, guess you don't dig mindless actions flicks too much lol and the Hero ending does suck...
Elizabeth: The Golden Age, 5/5 A tad bit long, but England's most famous (and likely to be most beloved) Queen had quite some years ahead of her after the first installment of Elizabeth back in 1998. Cate Blanchette delivered a powerful performance, strong-willed yet emotionally vulnerable. Her interaction with Sir Francis Walsingham (Geoffrey Rush) Sir Raleigh (Clive Owen) and Betsy was intense... Beautiful Elizabethean era costume with tiny waist and royal colour. To top it off, an engaging score by A.R. Rahman partner with stunning cinematography. One beautiful film... Can't wait to see it again on big screen.
Lol I used to, but that was back in the day. You know before I was even a teenager . I guess my taste in movies has changed since then. Sounds like I'll need to watch out for this film. and anyone have thoughts on "The Illusionist"? Might watch it.
