I think we just collectively enjoy the shock value those headlines offer. But even 10 years ago, underage sex (consensual or otherwise) was happening, just that it didn't get publicized to protect the children involved. How do I know that? Because if underage sex is unheard of back then, there will not be such thing as "unlawful sexual conduct with a minor" or "criminal sexual conduct with a minor" which pertain to two underage individuals engaging in sexual conducts.
Did you know it was a trend for kids as old as 11 or 12 got married back in those old times? Asian ones especially... I guess that is almost the same haha.
Hey, getting married and getting it on (and/or having a promiscuous lifestyle) are quite different... -sweat
but doesnt arranged marriages only happen in certain countries? im curious to find a survey that states the average age that one loses their virginity, comparing those of the past to today...
are you reading imaginary things? what was meant was the comparison of a group of today's kids ranging from 12-15, and a group from the past, with the same age range.. i have nothing to do with it.
It is surprisingly different, because supposedly, given the arranged marriage is legal, sex between a married couple should be legal despite their respective age (and the whole rape while married thing didn't get introduced until recently) Also, the sex between married young couples aim to reproduce, not solely for pleasure... So it's quite different if you ask me...
How do you know they didn't enjoy it? Besides, I think it's illegal for kids to get married now right, no? But it was legal back then.
It's not the action, but the intention, which made the difference. Just like the charges for manslaughter and murder differ dramatically even though the action and result are the same. As for underage marriage? I think it's still legal as long as their parents consented it.
wow. i feel fortunate never to have tasted the feather duster or hand. and i still turned out good hahaha. i have this huge problem seeing kids in elementary school wearing tube tops and spaghetti straps and "if i bend down you can see my butt hanging out" mini-skirts/short shorts (which i can obviously tell, they cut). their parents think it's "cute" but that's where it all begins. when i was a little girl the most my parents let me show was my arm and maybe half an inch above my knee. so basically, MEDIA (MTV, songs/music videos/provacative dancing, Sex in the City, etc etc) and internet has a whole bunch to do with it and PEER PRESSURE. everybody thinks it's cool to do pop pills, smoke pot and get it on. but i bet if they were caught alone, no one would advocate any of those things. everybody wants to fit in so they drop their agenda/rules and adapt the ones around them. i'm glad that only a few people of my 150 people in my class probably practice sex. while a considerable amount of people in my school in other grades probably engage in regular sex. i even heard a girl talking with her friend the other day about how she got a birth control shot and that she doesn't have to worry anymore. basically sex and drugs are becoming casual and the norm. and we're all getting desensitized. -angry. blah. i hate talking about this. teens with so much ahead of them, recklessly and instantaneously gratifying short-sighted wants. so what if you have sex? oooh, that just makes you.. pregnant? and then you go to a different school and when your parents throw you out of your house, none of your friends really try to help you. look where that got you.
TV is what happened. Or what's on it, rather. Television single handedly shaped an entire generation. It's on par with parenting. Maybe even more influential.
I don't think it's just tv...I think it's the combo tv and internet and maybe the latter one gives an extra push because it asks for more interactivity from the people. If you don't have the 'right' clothes as a kid you'll get bullied in real life...but since the internet plays a significant role in our daily lives (in the lives of the younger generations) people will be dissed at in the net too and with sites as youtube there's much more pressure on the youngsters to join whatever the latest fashion dictates. If kids chat with each other on MSN, talking about clothes, it's very easy to give a link to a site where they sell those skanky clothes and if the leaders of a group say that's cool stuff the followers have to agree with it due peer pressure. I mean, there have always been peer pressure but the impact might be even bigger due the interactivity with differents of media (mobiles count too in my opinion) But there's also a role for the parents right? If they've taught them discipline and morality at an early age their kid will stand stronger if confronted with peer pressure but as lots of parents are both working and or prefer to ask a babysitter to watch over their kids while they can have some spare time for themselves, they shouldn't blame others only. They should explain some things their kids are seeing on TV/internet, channelling the info they've been exposed too. It's very easy to blame the media only.
dang... yea kids these days. i hope i dont' have a daughter... i can see myself as one of those overprotective father types. Instead, give me a son so i beat the snot outta him the moment he gives me lip. When it comes to a daughter... too much stress i think... plus the only thing i could do to disipline her would be to take away and deny stuff... car, phone, clothes, blankets, bedding... floorboards...
^yeah well, but you might risk of chasing her in the arms of the bad boys instead huh? (teenage girls can be very stubborn) -unsure
