^nope youve installed a new copy of XP which will need a KEY

look on the side of the comp for the original key (cause when you get xp it comes with a sticker which you stick on the tower. it has the key)

    It says on the sticker

    " EMACHINES
    Microsotf Windows XP
    Home Edition Preinstalled
eMACHINES recommends Microsoft Windows XP "

what does the key look like? I mean like how many digits/letters perhaps?

the key is usually a combination of letters and numbers making up 25 characters totall split up in 5 sets of 5...
xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx is what it should look like.

try check the originallly packaging from that e-machine you should have their should be a reinstall CD for windows that will aloow you to fix the computer in the event that you did have a crash

those activation works as long as you don't attempt to go online and download critical updates from windows...did you by any chance do that...hence you got the message that you thing needs to be activated?

I'm pretty screwed because it doesn't have the activation key on it.
I downloaded the software by this CD I got, which only had a 30days trial.. not long left.
Yes, I have a message on the bottom right hand corner which says you have "## days till activaiton" after I've installed the CD I have. Geez, I'm dead.

my friend called microsoft and they gave him a new code cause his (cd key didn't work) was a fake... so now his windows xp is full version cause of real code microsoft gave him

i believe when you try to enter code to activate windows if you get error, there is a number or something you can call, so just call and see if it works

for my friend, they just gave it to him without asking 20questions... just told ms activation error and code was given

    hope that helps

are you sure you downloaded the PROFESSIONAL version of XP?
I never hear of a pro version have a 30 day trail.
all pro version just needed a "product key" , no activation whatsoever.

I do have a WORKING crack for XP home, win2003, dont know if it woks in pro retail version,
here it is, if you wanted it:

    http://www.megaupload.com/?d=52EZAZJJ

password is the in the file name itself, just use you mouse and highlight all the capitalized letters with the "." too begins with "WWW" ends with "TK"
copy and paste the content as password and it will extract.

^yep, all xp versions give you 30 days to activate the copy

KandyKidx maybe you should call up emachines support or think about buying a new xp

or just let the activation run out, it shouldnt render it useless, just some updates you will not be able to get IIRC

actually if you are installing the Volume Licensing files for windows xp they don't have any activation and just require a serial number. They bypassed the activation cuz IT people would go nuts having to go and activate all of the computers.....

kandy...i think dim sum is on it...you should go call emachine give them your model number and tell them that you didn't get any of the system restore cd's or anything like that and see if they will give you a new set. with the system restore stuff you should bring the computer back to normal health and not have the need to do the activation. Also try check it could be possible that the e-machine that you have has a hidden partition for restore and you just need to do a few different key strokes to get it started and going

    Thank you guys so much!

Should I let the activation run out and see what happens.. then I shall call emachines and no, they gave me no restore cd what so ever.. only the printer installation cd and the stuff were already nicely installed on it for me. If that doesn't work then >.< have to buy a new one. .dammit.

    Thanks again!

^ even though they didn't give you one with the original packaging i'm sure if you call them and tell them that your system went nuts and you need to restore it i'm sure they can point you into the right direction in getting the restore CD from them. Companies will almost ALWAYS give you a way to recover your computer in the event of a crash regardeless.

i'd say call them say HDD crashed need to recover OS to original state and see what they have to tell you

I dont think any of the leaked volume license keys are actually genuine anymore. at least i dont think they register genuine. here's a tip. go find a volume license key...then order a free windows XP Pro SP 2 disc from microsoft and use taht to update your computer... then turn on auto update and just let windows install the secuirty updates for you wihtout having to genuinely activate it. that circumvents some problems. but not all. its a good start anyways.

    6days left now.

I've just found the key on the back of the computer.. I didn't even notice until yesterday when the speaker plug was accidently losen so I'd to put it back up.

It'd 25 letters/numbers with some dashers as well so I think that's it.

    BUT THE PROBLEM IS,
a cd didn't come with that.. how can I get it back up? Where should I put the key stuff?

start >> all programmes >> accessories >> system tools >> activate windows

then enter ur code, let it connect to the net

I have a feeling that you might have to ring up microsoft, cause that key would have been activated ages ago when you first got ur comp,

but thats fine just tell em you reformatted your harddrive or reinstalled xp (which you did) and they will give u the activation code

but then again, it might work perfectly without a hitch

^The product key I've found on the back of the pc is for the home edition one, the preinstalled one on the pc not the Microsoft XP retail.. but I've tried to enter it, it didn't work.

Can you please teach me how I can get the old one back which is the Home Edition? I have the product key.. should I borrow the Home Edition cd from somebody and enter the key? Would that work?

Thanks for helping out a lot also, I really do appreciate it!! Not much days left till my computer will shut down b'cuz of no activation keyy =[
