http://tv.msn.com/tv/article.aspx?news=278256>1=7702 I think its a little excessive for the Filipino population to be so outraged by these comments. I mean I see a lot of other international shows that make fun of Americans all the time, should we go ahead and make a petition and ask for an apology. I think they just want publicity and money.... those scums!
Its understandable that they would be outraged cuz that comment provided a derogatory image of the Filipinos and their education as substandard to American one.
i think there upset at the premise and the connotation that joke was used....as it undermined the education system in the philipines and is a direct comparison of te education between the two countries...obviously stating where one education standard is better than the other...
I agree. It's obvious that the Filipinos are looking for a little fame and/or money. I mean, there are tons of shows that make fun of different races and are put into stereotypes. I recently watched a Simpson's episode making fun of N'Sync. It was hilarious. Asians are stereotyped all the time. So when the education system of China is said to be more rigorous or whatnot, isn't it just implying that Chinese schools are better? You just can't win. We would lose so many shows if every little comment was brought under scrutiny. To be offended by a comment a distraught Susan was making? That's just thrife. Get over it.
Well, its pretty obvious that the US education system is in fact superior to the Philippines education system.
those scums? duuude. we were talking about it in class today. it's not just a deragatory remark but one that questions the integrity of medical schools in the Philippines. and filipinos do play a huge role in health care in the States seeing as they are the second-largest ethnic group in health care. and fyi, many people (in general) who want to go into the medical field go to the Philippines for their degrees. so please stop calling all these people 'scums' because many who worked hard to get where they're at now started in the poverty-stricken lands of the Philippines. i have a teacher who worked his way to america by being #1 in his class although he came from some unknown rural village near Manila. and how, exactly, do you know that the US education system is better than the Philippines education system? as a whole, perhaps you have a point because the America is wealthier but how can you compare their medical schools if you haven't been to either? what's worse is ABC is managed by The Walt Disney Co.; that's.. sad. -sigh-
Its a joke, I don't understand why people take stuff so seriously. You know how many times people that are in the medical field said they want to go to the Phillipines for graduate medical school, zero. People do not go to the Philippines when they can go to one of the top 10 medical school here in the US. 5 of my friends were medical school, 2 of the 5 were from HK and none of them ever thought about going to Philippines for medical school. They have said that US and Sweden are one of the top medical programs in the world.
that's 5 out of how many people in this entire world? and my apologies, most is an exaggeration because i do not know for sure. but i know that some american doctors/nurses have gotten schooled in the Philippines.
Filipinos are one of the major forces in nursing worldwide. Their schooling are in no way inferior than the American ones. I fail to see to why ppl tend to think Filipinos are substandards in medical fields.
