My favourite was movie for now has to be either Braveheart or 300. Yeah, I'm not into those mass weapons of killing.

Uh oh, I forgot to add in Last of the Mohicans. Though it's more like barbaric kinda war, it's fun to see how barbarians fight the very disciplined France line. Just sitting there waiting instructions while barbarians are charging into their faces.

    GREAT thread!

Having read the majority of the posts here, I went ahead of started downloading some of movies listed: Downfall of the Third Reich (hiake), Band of Brothers series (tomatoman), Pianist (khaotic). I've seen many portions of Schindler's List but have not seen the film in it's entirety.

Has anyone seen "Letters from Iwo Jima"? It's a pretty good film from the Japanese perspective of the Second World War. I'm surprised it wasn't mentioned here yet, seeing as how it was released not too long ago. How about "Flags of Our Fathers" (the American perspective on Iwo Jima)? I haven't seen it yet, but will download it.

I am easily bored with war action sequences... That's why most of the films which made my lists are war dramas (rather than just war films)... I wanted to see Letters from Iwojima just for Ken Watanabe...

    Typical female. Haha kidding.

Ken Watanabe was awesome in the movie, go see it now!
When I search for war movies, I don't usually look for any familiar actors, but rather for the action scenes and story.

It was a good movie, but not good enough to make my all time favorites list :\

LOL, those CGI laden fighting scenes are so boring. I don't see what's so amazing about some chopper tumbling down in flame (you get the picture).

    *cough*Transformers*cough*

If the whole movie is just plain CG fighting, then there really is no point to it. Like Hiake I get easily bored by the pointless and unsatisfying CG action scenes.

But Transformer isn't a war film... -unsure I see (and loved) it for its entertainment value...

War films are never entertaining by my book, they should be intriguing, but not entertaining... -sweat And by that I don't mean war films are boring, just that... the point of seeing the film is not to be entertained, but to be intrigued by the tension.

Yeahhhh, the tension you feel when you see the soldiers defending and attacking DURING the "CGI laden fighting" scenes. :D

Have you watched the Pianist yet? Proves you don't need huge laden fighting scenes :p

The camera usually move too fast for me to actually care, or the film's got way too many cameos that I couldn't care less if they are maimed or killed.

Certain brilliance in war films are how it connects you with a character, that you would worry about his/her survival etc.

Films with Liam Neeson can't be too bad... Kinsey made me fell in love with him all over again -tongue2

I'm watching the Band of Brothers miniseries right now (on episode 4) and it's really good. Not hiake's cup of tea, but anyone who has a general interest in World War II (lots of action) will definitely like it.

I saw Der Untergang just a couple days ago and I must say, it was quite intriguing to see the war from the perspective of the Nazi's. Hitler's personality (both humane and inhumane) was interesting to see. Ganz did a phenomenal job.

I still have the Pianist to watch and the rest of Band of Brothers to finish. Anything else that might be worthy of watching?
