hose geniuses at Samsung are at it again, and this time they've crammed together so many memory cells so tightly, they've come up with the world's densest flash memory chip. Using a process that packs the cells just 30 nm (30 nanometers, about the length of the smallest virus) away from each of their closest neighbors, now they can pack 64 gigabits of flash memory onto one chip. Layering together 16 of those cells results in a memory card that can hold an incredible 128 GB.

This is a big deal. When more memory can be packed into a smaller space on flash memory cards, the price-per-gig drops. As the capacity of these energy-sipping memory cards increases, they become more practical for use in everyday devices such as laptops, replacing spinning hard drives and promising such features as instant-on, smaller size, less heat and enhanced energy efficiency. We can't wait to see the impact of this technology, expected to hit the market by 2009. — Charlie White

i'd say way over $150..... pretty impressive.. wonder when it'll be out on the market and actual devices will be able to support it.

I see 128gb flash players in the not so distant future. You can kiss the era of the hard drive based mp3 players goodbye.

I don't think the PSP, nor any current consoles, supports this card at the moment...

As I have said before, it's possible that many consoles are not compatible with this new card yet...

most like all won't be compatible...eg with phone eventhough theres 4gb and 8gb flash cards out some phones only support up to 1 or 2gb.
i think it might be a while for more products to be compatible. and i don't think many people will hav it for a while aswell...
but if when it hits the market and the prices are low there may be more incentive for products to become more compatible.

does anyone know the price this will be?

Another problem to consider with the new flashdrives of higher capacity: is the data transfer speed fast enough for it to be of any use?

And oh, it's going to be expensive, for those who are inquiring about the price. Even the 32GB SSD (solid-state drive) SanDisk is dishing out adds $600 USD to cost for laptop production, and that's for only 32GB, just imagine the price tag for 128GB.

ye its not worth it to buy one of these at the mo, just wait a few years and im sure the price will go down as technology advances. also why would u want one of these, the chances are that it won't work on ur digital camera etc and the battery life wouldn't last long enough for u to utilise it fully.

wow.. so if the 32gb is 600usd then the 128 would be a crazy price...
but when it does come out i guess the 32 prices will drop a fair big and be more affordable for more people.
