This is my second year in a city university. I want to transfer to a better college after my second year is done. Right now my GPA isn't look very good and hopefully it doesn't drop any further than it already did. And I'm looking for a decent college majoring in either pharmaceutical chemistry or astrophysics. GPA: 3.48 Award: National Dean List <<< Not sure if it's an award or not. It looks more of a private business thing trying to rip u off. General chem grade: B+ / A- ( I can do a lot better if I actually try to do my HW >.<) General physics grade: A+ Those gay none math/science classes slaughtered my gpa. So far I looked at: Columbia University (I almost faint after thinking about it) Colgate University (looks like a bit far from my reach) and that's it because these are the only 2 colleges that offer those majors and within NY Anyone got any ideas what other colleges that offer those majors and close to NY. And also, please tell me if I have any chance getting into Colgate cause it seems like a really good school for astrophysics. Thanks in advance.
first off... ur GPA isn't bad... its actually pretty good... with that GPA u can get into somewhere like CalBerkley on transfer... secondly ur asking for a decent school, but u've listed like ivyleague, top10 schools of america schools... i mean... decent implies state Uni's... the best thing to do now is stop stressing, just walk in and talk with your counselors and they can help you with what to do, and which schools offer your major and work from there... remember your College GPA can be lower than your HS GPA when transfering to a big name Uni... so don't stress over it, just make sure u meet every requirement and have recomendations and good essay skills... and btw... Colgate's average GPA for transfers are 3.5, 3.0 being minimum... and aren't u cutting it just a little short on transferring? i mean it's already November
3.48!?!???!!!???? you must be insane if you think thats shit. some of us cant even keep our marks at 2.0 ok.... <_<
3.48 is not that good, especially coming from a city university (Brooklyn College). Thus it's really nothing to brag about. I went to other forum and saw a dude with a 3.8+ gpa asking others to chance him into Colgate. I was thinking if a 3.8+ is stressing over it then where does 3.48 stand? And im not transfering for next semester, im planning to transfer next year's fall term. I saw the average admittance into Colgate from collegeboard. number of ppl get admitted into Colgate is about 1/4. That's y im scared. Well not scared but u no worried that I might be able to make it. Please list me a couple of schools that might be majoring in pharmaceutical or astrophysics if I cant get into Colgate. Thanks in advance.
^ ok so i think we got the scales wrong... over here, gpa works as 0 to 4, where 4.0 is 100%, and 0 is obviously 0%.. 2.0 is around 60% i think... so IF you are using the same scale, 3.5 would be along the lines of high B, low A?
Hey, c'mon give her a break, she probably just has "high expectations"... I mean you must have high expectations to even consider Columbia! iiimj4everiii... Your stats don't look too bad, it doesn't hurt to try, even if it will cost you $$$. But hey, it's all about your future and your school of choice - you want to be somewhere and doing something that you are happy with. Think of the money you invest now for the money that will payout later.
I'ma guy xD. anyway, I know I should try but if I ever fail to get in, it'll hurt so much. It's like if I fail to get in, to me it's going to feel like haha you're too stupid to be here. Another problem is I don't know whether if I can keep that gpa up. Shits happen to me recently and now I can't even concentrate on anything. I've been cutting a lot and shits. And now I found a school that I want to go to with high requirements. I've fucked up so much this semester. I got a 53 on my first chem2 midterm and 63 and 85 on my calc midterms. I prolly got like 50 or less on my history class. That 3.48 is going to drop by the end of the semester. And I still can't pull myself together to do what I'm supposed to do. Now what's my chance of getting in
haah yeah.. the joys of a falling gpa... once it falls... its hard to get it back up lolz so as long as u started high, its all good...lolz =) in terms of transferring, i guess its just a matter of what u really want? whats wrong with your current uni? in the end, i think its down to the lecturers/professors that you get that make the biggest difference. you could be at the "best" uni, but who knows who'll u get to be lecturing/tutoring you. it may even look better if u work hard enough to be the no1 student there as well
Oops! Sorry XD lol .... I just assumed because of your display picture and your signature: Ming ♥ Cindy Ma bad....
Damn calling that a bad GPA, i don't know what's good anymore haha....Asian standards, of course i don't follow them hence i'm doing bad lol... Gotta tell you the truth though, don't think you can get into Columbia, was actually trying to find out the top 100 campuses after this (so random) heres the list if your curious to other choices: http://ed.sjtu.edu.cn/rank/2007/ARWU2007_Top100.htm
if u fail to get in, its not because ur too stupid... please reverse the logic here... people that apply all meet their academic requirements; otherwise, why would u apply... the difference in the 1/4 that make it and the 3/4 that don't are the things you do to prove that you can succeed in their school... stop worrying about the GPA and figure out a way to convince them that you want to be there... meet the counselours, talk to the dean if possible... prove to them that you're worthwhile... send letters... DO SOMETHING... i mean some cheeky guy got into Harvard by sending a completely pompous letter to the dean and posting it on the internet... do you really want to know your chances at getting into Colgate? its 25% just like everyone elses chances... if you want to improve it, stop second guessing yourself on forums and ask for help where it really matters, at their admissions office... seriously if anything, this is the reason why Asian standards are so high... cuz everyone thinks GPA OMG GPA... well no shit... if that's all you care about and that's all you think about, then yes, you have to have your GPA OVER 9000!! and amazing test scores to get into any good school cuz every other Asian is thinking the exact same way...
i have some friends in columbia. some of my friends told me that the easiest way to get into columbia is to apply for the engineering school and then after a while, switch your majors.
damn... meet the counselors... i never done any of that before. in fact i dont even no where colgate is. i prolly have to travel like hundreds of miles if I were to discuss these stuffs with them. blah... this shit is more annoying that i thought. i was thinking purely based gpa and those other extra curriculum craps and just send the application to them and get it over with.
u haven't visited the campus yet?... u really need to visit the campuses u plan on transferring to... at first u might think, o no big deal it's just another school... but u gotta remember, ur going to be living there until u graduate, u don't want to stay at a place that you might hate... not only might u hate living there, u might hate it so much that u fail out of school... it doesn't matter how good a school is if u hate being there...
No offense mj4ever,but you're the only person who think it's cool to "publicize and make obcesssive" of his/her own relationship status/length in an online forums . Please take that shit down, will ya, it's bad enough to have read it on your previous Claymore post. Anyway, back on topic. There's tons of good, decent colleges out there well within your reach. If you think you won't get in Columbia or Colgate, then chances are, you're probably right. A GPA of 3.46 is nothing to complain about, it PROBABLY won't be enough to get you into the top schools, but it WILL get you into other decent-to-great schools. Consider applying to some "reachable" schools, like MCP (Mass. College of Pharmacy) here in Massachusetts. I had a GPA of 3.7 during my first year and I transferred to an above-average private school for my second year onwards. Even with the 3.7 GPA, I knew it wasn't logical to be applying to Ivy-League schools because I lacked other things like previous superb academic awards, top-notch standardized test scores, community service involvement, etc etc. It just wasn't gonna happen. What I'm trying to say is, apply to somewhere more feasible and within distance (of the 2 colleges you mentioned, you even said that they're out of your reach). GPA isn't the sole factor to getting accepted, though its a first. If your GPA doesn't fall through, your other characteristics might stand out. You did mention that your grades are declining at a staggering rate -- I would lower my standards a bit and consider applying to other good colleges.
blah, i really want to be within NY. i know there's some other colleges that are outta state that are within my reach. its just taht i dont wanna go outta state. But one thing for sure is that i really gotta take that shit down.
Hhmmm...Well Massachusetts is pretty close...right? You could try MCPH, aka Massachusetts College of Pharmacy of Health and Sciences. Also Northeastern University is a decent school but a little bit harder than MCPH but much easier than Columbia University. I'm a senior in high school and I'm starting to wonder where I should go to high school. It's so perplexing<_<
