You cant avoid cancer if it comes, but there are things you can do to minimize the risk of getting it.
it's called a HPV vaccine... it's not to prevent cervical cancer... it's a vaccine for SOME strains of Human Papilloma Virus (aka warts) that causes cervical cancer... if a lady cought herpes the HPV vaccine would not have any effect on the herpe virus... she'd still b at higher risk of cervical cancer...
the vaccine is good for strains 16 and 18, 16 causes scc and 18 cause adeno. The most popular hvp vaccine is gardasil by merck (a evil monster), made from hpv 16 L1 particles. The vaccine in general gives about 70% coverage. It is important to get persistent pap with the vaccine, because no one knows the length of protection. In addition, the large popluation side effects is unknown. When you get paps done asks for thinprep because it is easier to do hpv digene testing.
OMG wot do u mean merck is a evil monster?? i took gardasil... i'm due for my final shot next feb/march...
guess they are tryign to say all drug manufacturers are evil... just like bayer who didn't reply to my application to go to germany to work >< pfizer for lying saying they'd get back to me right away too!! (then the lady went on maternity leave... and never heard back >< ) az for not having a dept that does research in syd! =( lol all EVILLLLL
I just don’t like how merck does business, the pre-FDA approval PR campaign, lobbying for mandates, the executive order in Texas. Glaxosmith Kline is going to have a HPV vaccine (cervarex) out too. It better protects older females which is more important. Most Low grade lesion just regresses to nothing in young girls, while in older ladies the lesion becomes high grade lesion. High grade lesion usually requires leeps or cone which affects the female ability to carry a baby
oh... u just dun like the way they do business... *whew* the only reason i'm getting gardasil is coz they offer it free to females under the age of 26...
u should know at the end of the day, all these companies are just doing it for "money" the more u know, the more u hate them there really isn't any companies out there, that do it for the sake of society or health or research development... its just the way it is
I know the world runs on money and everybody is trying to get their share, but Merck’s ad campaign is just irresponsible, because Merck give girls the impression that females don’t need paps smear anymore. Paps smears are still needed because more data are needed for the vaccine. I just think people should remember lessons learned from malaria and TB.
govt should help get the idea thru that the current vaccination doesn't actually prevent it... it just lowers the chances
Well, I am a cytopathology student, so I am bias because I have to look at it. Both things are true, but the recommendation is this from American Cancer Society, screen every year with conventional Pap smear or every 2 years with liquid-based tests (thinprep). The cost is about the same. In addition, if you do thinprep, we can do a lot more if we find something, like cell blocks, microbiology for sometimes latent infection (Chlamydia) and immuno stains. In addition, some study showed HPV-Pap test in detection of HSIL can achieved 100% sensitivity compared to 50 to 70% sensitivity of HSIL in conventional Pap smears.
Sorry, i don't mean to complex your situation with all this information. just remember your last mense correctly and tell your clinician if you are taking an exogenous hormones to avoid any false positive
