    hi im off to uni next year cant w8 but atm i cant decide on which uni award im gonna do
    im gonna choose Computer Security but there's a wide range of Awards like BSc [Hons] , BSc and HND

    I might not get in doing BSc [Hons] Compter Security cos im 40 UCAS points off the requirement. there's a choice of:

    *BSc [Hons] Compter Security req.240 points
    *BSc Compter Security req.100 points
    *HND Compter Security req.100 points

    i got atm in college predicted points 200

    i want to ask u, whats the differences between BSc [Hons] and Just BSc on its own? i did ring uni up today n they recommend me apply HND n BSc[Hons] therefore i have a backup, if i dont get in BSc[Hons] i defo get in doing HND but i forgot to ask em about BSc lol

    help suggestions?....

    generalising
    (well applies in aust, should be similar-ish around the world too)

    your BSc, ie Bachelor in Science should be about 3 years full time, all course work
    then usually, pending grades on how you go, you can opt to do an honours year, generally research (can be coursework, less likely tho)

    obviously an honours makes the piece of paper look much better

    but in the end, its not about the piece of paper, more about what u really wnat to do

    i never really knew u can enrol urself into an honours course rite away? =/

    HONOURS BETTER.....

    but fresh graduate apply for jobs of course honours sound better....... later on, when you got few years experience, ppl will look at your experience in jobs not your certificate whether you are with honours or without honours

    In my type of degree theres MEng and BEng, MEng being a year longer and more entry requirements however,

    you can get in applying for a BEng and then you can always transfer to a MEng (grades permitting), so in fact a lot of people in my year are on the same degree as me but got in at a lower grade requirement caused they transferred degrees

    so if your situation is like mine, you can always transfer at a later date, you can always ring the uni and ask em if thats possible

    I assume
    BEng = Bachelor of Engineering?
    MEng = Masters of Engineering?

    The Honours program is tailored for high standing students in their chosen field of study.

    They undergo an intense research topic of their choice, with a thesis of 25,000 words under a supervised lecturer of their choice. Usually when students choose their lecturer they choose them in regards to their specialised field and it usually lasts for a year.

    Depending on your outcome the honour's program could be graded in terms of these: (my uni example only, not sure about ures):

    Top Class - A = 80+
    Second Class - B = 70 - 80
    3rd Class - 50- 70
    Fail - Below - 50%

    You MUST score at least a second class to earn a higher wage and an increase in employment prospects.
    Note however if u score a 3rd class honours your time in your honours program might be wasted because you are in a worse off position than a normal graduate. It demonstrates that you cannot lack the ability of research irregardless of your school marks. Just be careful but this applies to the system of Oz. Not too sure about yours.

    Forgot to mention, if u are goin to an Ivy league school and graduate with honours. Your paper WILL BE HIGHLY competitive with others. =)

    i don't think he will be going for the top universities. tbh best way is to ask ur college, they should know more about it or go and ask the careers person, they usually know more about it. thankfully my degrees that i applying to are much simpler in choice.
