Look, if I wanted a 4 seater... wait a sec, I don't. And I highly doubt that there's enough room at the back of the M8. If there is, then that just means the car is an overweight piece of junk.
Guys! you guys are missing one important thing!! get your VIN plate checked on Carfax, it's free until... *looks at calendar* ... free until the 26th... (3 days ago)-noclue Jokes aside, get the VIN plate checked through Carfax. You may be buying a VGA or a stolen car from another country. Choices? Eumm 20k? New or used? New: eumm it's narrows down to those ugly looking GM cars... Used: say less then 5 yrs old? I'd get a Mazda 3. between 5 to 10 yrs old? Lexus IS300 or E55 AMG, they go for 19k in Montreal. more then15yrs old and paying 20k? Am I mad? no...Get a Skyline GTR -innocent2 or LS300 (Aristo) depends on alot of factors, you may be loving American cars while I despise them
my budget is 6-8k =) american cars are CHEAP.. but thats why i dun wanna get one =P ahh i want a skyline... maybe not gtr.. gts-t is fine =) i want somethin that looks nice.. dun really need that much power cause i dun expect to be racing it. too much snow to go fast anyways. how about insurance? do i get that before after or during buying a car? ahh i hear its around 3k a year... stupidly expensive lol.
depends where you live. If you're in Ontario, you're screwed, the insurance is like 6k for a 19yr old. 6-8k gets you a decent car... If you don't mind paying for gas, a Subaru is nice. You know, Canadian winter is long and harsh and boring and dangerous and...-unsure you get my point. Subaru Legacy in the 90's goes for that range. There are some E36 BMW's too, and obviously some newer American cars. A 2004 Ford Focus goes for 7k... But then, it's not very reliable, unless you a mechanic friends, is gonna cost more then a Japanese car. Right now, I have about the same budget ( 7-9k) and I'm aiming for a Skyline, which isn't too far off of your budget. But insurance is a different story. Maintenance must be done impeccably, and accidents will cost you your kidney, leg, and liver. Then again, drive safe and everything is going to be alright. Don't make compromises. I'm sure Fearless_FX isn't even studying... R8? M6? pfff they're turtles Mine's GTR jk, the R8 is a monster!
awwww dont' say that... there's a lot of times when u wish u had extra seats... rly if u were to go so far as to complain about weight... why even bother looking at these super cars? the Exige and Ariel Atom is right up your alley... regarding insurance... in California, you have 30days upon recieving your registration card... or so it says... but we've always done it within a week of buying/registering the car... i mean what if some crazy guy hits my car right when i leave the dmv? i'd be screwed -what?
I haven't been reading the thread but most of us aren't loaded with bricks of gold. For those that are a little more fortunate, I think that a 4 door sports car is perfect for our adrenaline needs, social needs, practicality. Unless you guys are all millionaires... Obviously, *ahem* we all drive withing the speed limit and we only go to the local racetrack to test our machines.. *sarcasm* Good example if you're alil more laoded, Legacy GT, Impreza, TSX, 335i, A4, S4, G35, Skyline sedan? That's affordable
mmm yea ive always prefered the g35 over the 350z cause of thsoe extra seats... 2 seats is really only good if you're loaded and have extra cash to get more than 1 car, or if u have no friends xP jkjk where do u check for used cars for sale? i just use craigslist but... NO ONE sells cars in waterloo >_< so i have to go back to toronto if i want to buy a car=/ hmm ive always thought subarus were pretty nice, but the only ones for sale are forresters (i dun want a wagon) and STIs which go for 30k T~T
i live in Montreal so I usually check Montreal Racing.com. There's Kijiji but I was never fond of them: scams and ripoff. Going to Toronto for a car isn't obsessively far, considering I'm looking on Yahoo Auctions Japan from time to time haha. There's a 2002 automatic Impreza for 6k here in Montreal, 200$ of travel for 3k of saving I thnk it's worth it.
cars in quebec are significantly cheaper than anywhere else in canada. however, i have heard that the province has a tendency to oversalt their roads which leads to alot of under body rust. i would be wary about buying a car from QC, unless i checked it out thoroughly first.
wow thats cheap! how would i get to quebec though... i have school so not much time on my hands. also, finding a place to stay would be a problem =/.. and if the deal doesnt work out then that would suck T_T anyone live in waterloo wanna sell me a cheap reliable car? xD edit: gahhh god damn vancouver! they're lik flooded with skylines http://vancouver.craigslist.ca/car/490310762.html .... so niceee ... if i visit vancouver this xmas is tehre a way to get a car from there back to toronto/waterloo? without driving it of course ~~
most of the cars in Canada and northern part of United State are very rusty since it snows there and salts
which is why we tend to go USDM or JDM for many models. Well in Quebec, we're famous for our poor road conditions. I always tell the same lame joke to friends that Iraq after the American invasion has better roads then us. Over salting tendencies? Yea, but it's the only solution for our weather. I'd rather drive on snow then slush though...
if you do intend to go with the subaru as someone suggested, you really REALLY need to research carefully... i know for a fact that scoobie rex trannys are made of glass... even now though, i do suggest a well balanced fwd car... over awd scoobies... less moving parts, less maint issues, better gas mileage(usually), w/ snow tires they can corner/brake better than an awd w/o snow tires, acceleration on snow will be better than awd since all the weight is going to be in the front... whoever suggested the Mazda 3, that's not a bad idea, again i suggest a hatchback mainly because u are a first year and chances are you'll also have a need for trunk space...
if your buying an acura or honda that are v6 engines.. better make sure the transmission doesnt have any problem.. cause on honda accord v6 98-02.. the transmission has problem same as acura 99-03 tl... stupid american/canada transmission..
I suggested all that lol. Subaru's seems to last forever. Tranny issues won't be a worry, it's not a track car. comparing FF(snow tires) with 4WD(without) is a misrepresentation of reality. How about both FF and 4WD with snow tires? Under normal city driving conditions, the worst FF paired up with the best 4WD, say a 9114S, is the same. But, if poop does happen, i'd like to know that I can deliver power to my rear tires. But then, I did fine with a FF, eumm 3.5RL lol. Comes down to your choice. If you are slightly interested in lapping your car later on, you might want to consider your choice further. I think my RL isn't the type of car that goes around a racetrack... I understand your reasoning but it comes down to a personal choice at the end.
i had it all covered b4 u even came about -tongue2 scoobie engines do last a while... they're history speaks for itself, but the tranny is a problem even for regular joes that don't track for '02+ rexs... most usually swap an STi tranny in rather than get a new one from Scoobie... i realize my tire example is misrepresented, however it also illustrates the point that an awd is not necessary for snow... FWD is all you really need since he isn't tracking either...
lol n00b isn't necessary... you make good points and are totally correct in that it does come down to personal preference...
so about the salt on the roads.. all older cars are going to have rust problems? tehres not much i can do about it though is there... hmm i saw an ad for a '02 lexus IS300.. $7500 =) i hope it doesnt turn out to be a scam.. seems too good to be true though >_<
