What games do you want this thing to play specifically?
    Also, moved to Tech section.

You just might have to go over budget for that... Crysis is an extremely demanding game.

    Huh? I'm lost.

My current setup is just under $1000 but if you include a power supply and case that would be about $100 over budget not including keyboard, mouse and monitor. I haven't tested Crysis yet but I'm able to run Call of Duty 4 with everything set to the max and still able to get 55-62 FPS without overclocking.

under a thousand, i don't think so. i heard crysis even lags with one geforce 8800gt, so you probably would want 2....and that would already be close to your budget lol...

hmm parts.. yummy.. where do you live? california? if so go to fry's buy the mobo+cpu combo.. usually cheap.. but i dont know is it any good.. most ppl don't recommend cheap mobo though..
    XFX 8600GT $100 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150265
Tyris 19" monitor $140 http://shop3.outpost.com/product/5440859 not sure how big monitor you need..
case.. varies.. depending on how it looks... and does it come with psu..
    AMD x2 5600+ cpu + ECS NFORCE6M-A mobo $140 http://newspaperads.mercurynews.com/ROP/ads.aspx?advid=32664&adid=5543826&subid=19162392&type=
    AMD x2 6400+ Black Edition cpu + ECS GeForce6100SM-M mobo $175 http://newspaperads.mercurynews.com/ROP/ads.aspx?advid=32664&adid=5538218&subid=19140834&type=
kinda cheap.. but each week price is different at fry's..
and not sure about the ram and hard drive.. its all depending on you mainly. 8600gt should be enough.. but probably not for crysis.. for cod4 and other games should be good.. and 8800gt.. if crysis lag on that.. 8600gt wont handle it at all i guess:D unless that person is using a 24" lcd setting it on 1920x1280 resolution.. probably will lag no matter what lol depends on resolution when you play.. i play call of duty 2 on 800 x 600 without graphic card and it works fine.. but right now my comp wont start cod2 >.<

dependant on the resolution and how good you want the graphics i wouldnt get the 8600gt

the 8800GT at 1280x800 has around an average of 27FPS for Crysis, which is just about acceptable and playable. If you got the money stretch out to a 8800GTS 512, or if you cant afford the GTS go for the 8800GT

    give this a read http://techreport.com/articles.x/13660

"The Grand Experiment" comes in at $1000, but no monitor

    bbes Incredible

just wait to after christmas, then the cost of parts should go down and u might just be able to get it under $1000. also if u can wait just a wait another half a year and the prices should def go down. thinking about it $1000 is quite a tight budget for a gaming pc even if u built it urself.
