i dont get what you mean.. backing up your pictures? just buy a flash drive or external hard drive and back everything up once in a while.
image software...like norton ghost, etc,,,basically copies everything into a disk and u can replicate it in other system...sort of like cloining, a typical use is that when you hard drive crashes and nothing is recoverable , then u use the image to replicate what u have, instead of reinstalling all the software etc,

I used to use acronis and ghost, now im using paragon drive backup, personally imo for home use there all about the same really
