well, im gonna do this upload in parts, i have like 2000 photos but il break it down into like 4 posts of like 55 photos in kinda chronological order and exclude any boring stuff lol. here is part 1 on the way to china, my uncle, aunt and me beijing beer, was pretty weak sauce actually hahahah Plane food.. not terrible, not great either first steps into china the bird'snest olympic stadium Hotel bed The chinese have yet to master the art of comfortable mattresses... seriously hard stuff fancy bathroom lunch group photoooo lol engrish 9 dragon wall in beijing hahaha well i thought this was funny way to dinner dinner this dish made my spine tingle guess where the switch was located? yeeep beijing train station mmm... preservatives train to datong my harvard educated room mate keeping track of his losses in our poker game datong station our datong hotel lobby... 'the datong international hotel' i believe it was called another really hard bed lol. they look so inviting but then you sit on it and its like a rock lots of hotels had this fancy set of switches that controlled everything. its a good idea, who wants to get out of bed to turn off the lights anyway covert photo of my foot masseuse... who ended up doing quite a bit more than massaging my foots my foots yeeeaaah, datong air, so fresh and clean! prepped for surgery yungang grottoes yumm... snow + ash = decidedly uncool hotpot night! our driver about to make a suicide pass on a blind curve.. intense chinese driving for you on the way to 'wutai shan' which i will post some pics of tomorrow as well as more of my adventures (unless of course there are haters who don't want to see my vacation, in which case they can gtfo )

yeah, the food was actually pretty solid for airline fare, i was expecting slop lol hahaha no, we all paid for the same thing, but somehow my masseuse ended up sitting ontop of me and rubbing extremely close to my 'package'. it was pretty cool hahaha they have different 9 dragon walls all throughout china yeah i got my zune 80, il post pics of that somewhere eventually as well lol yep it was the entrance to a restaurant and yeah, that hotel in datong was pretty nice
the hanging temple safty is our first concern woooo creepy statues.. they are like comin out atcha pretty high up shazzam! huge wooden pagoda on the way to wutai shan. all apparently built without any nails (although when i went inside i noticed alot of nails and steel pegs all over lol, but those might have been added after for safety) whats wrong with this? some steep steps lol some more intense mountain roads our hotel in wutai shan nice lobby we were the ONLY guests at the hotel... 18 people in a place built for like 400... was like something out of the shining hilarious menu. hammy intestrnes anyone? "Porint Profess Your Excellency Seat" me and my room mate were rolling on the ground laughing at this sh*t, it was hilarious up until the point we realized that in case of a fire we had no idea wtf we should do. ^_^ wutai temple frankly epic view lunch 1080 Step Walk to the top after lunch... nothing like some good exercise to get that digestion going ooh myyy halfway up view from the top.. i was pretty exhausted vinegar factory/museum. shanxi province is famous for their red vinegar. il be honest with you and tell you i thought it tasted like crap, but then again, the chinese eat weird stuff. maybe im just too white vinegar woman me and my uncle at the vinegar museum. lol i look alot like him i think. except i have more harry potterish features Our hotel in the 'ancient city of Ping yao'. This place had character. entering the room.. we were in for a surprise the TV... and the beds or uhh.. bed! the hotel courtyard supper the ancient city in zhengzhou. this city was pretty modernized, i actually think it was nicer than beijing. it reminded me of vancouver with lots of new, glass and metal high rises. actually there was one set of new apartments that they were marketing towards people wanting to experience the 'vancouver living style'. i thought it was pretty amusing, but it makes sense. vancouver is one of the best cities iv ever been to, so why not model your new highrises on the best. the apartments were starting at around 180 thousand dollars US, if i had lots of money i would probably buy a few while prices are down and then sell for like three times that after prices have risen due to demand. buuut i digress. our hotel's lobby... huuuuuuge, you could play football here lol the most comfortable beds of the trip watching initial D the view from the top... errr.. middle of the hotel
lol yeah a few language barriers man. i got lotsa practice on my basic chinese sentences though ' wo bu dong guo yue' 'wo bu jie dao' 'shi shi' 'ni hao' 'mai yo wen ti' 'ji jian' and 'zuo ba!' things were kinda easier for me though because i look western. the hotel staff and most of the people i met seemed to go out of their way for me and i didn't really get any hassle. beijing was probably the best though. alot of people spoke english there. there was actually one night where i went walking around the city by myself and girls kept coming up to me and talking to me out of the blue in english. they were all like 'hey! do you speak english? you kind of look chinese' then i would be like "yes... yes, im half chinese" "oh, is your mom or dad chinese?!!" " my mom" "oh, wow, where are you from?" "I'm from canada" "ooo canada!, so you're from vancouver???" "nope, not vancouver" "toronto??" "no... im from saskatchewan" then i'd get a blank look from them lol but yeah, overall language wasn't a huge issue because everyone on my tour group spoke mandarin anyway and they all helped me out whenever i needed something.
lol i would understand why they thought youd be from vanc or t.o.... both are mini hk i bet they were like... saskatechewan... what the hell is he speaking? indian? lol and not only that, youve probably have the only north face jacket in that area lol
lol yeah i tried to explain it was in the middle of canada and stuff, but i could tell i was losing their interest so i started to talk about shopping which, of course, is a topic that is universally interesting to all women. hahaha and surprisingly no on the north face thing. i saw quite a few people with north face jackets. i think its because they are made in vietnam and a fair amount are probably shipped to china. i didn't see any north face store in beijing though :( which was disappointing cuz i would have liked to have seen what the pricing was like. no doubt i would have shot myself in the head afterwards for paying 300 CND for mine lol.
shit yo things in vietnam are cheappp i bought a brand new karbon ski coat/pants set valued at 400, for just 80 bucks from my uncle, who bought it in vietnam for the same price. the best coat ive used. ever. lets pray to heaven and hell my folks gonna let me go to vietnam this summer, with my uncle and aunt. i have never been to vietnam in my life. hmmmmmmm.... just realized something... if my folks dont wanna go to vietnam, maybe i can work my ass off, and go with my uncle and aunt back to vietnam... would be very worth it...
oh fearless, i'm am so jealous. ur trip looked like soooo much fun. did u pay for the trip urself? side note about the beds, i prefer the hard beds. less back pain. i think a lot of asians like it like that. my entire family sleep on rock hard beds. ur plane food looks better then my dinner usually. buy anything good there? i woulda gone with nothing and just bought it all there.
less back pain? are you seriousss??? i have to have a layer of foam on top of my mattress, so that i can conform to the shape of my back... i once slept on the ground, hardwood flooring, and dammmmmmnnnnnnn i had the WORST night of my life. lol
