Hmmmm, they now have like 4 crossings between Hong Kong and China, not all of them are in the city of Shen Zhen... Though I am not sure about the "cheap" part.
Heard about cases like this years ago, but they must have been to some very uncrowded or something washroom.. I just came back from China about a month and half ago and I never encountered anything like that... But true, you have to be careful. I always went to McDonald's or KFC or any big mall if I ever wanted to use the washrooms. Also, like someone mentionned before, passing by Shenzhen isn't the only way to reach Hong Kong from Guangzhou and vice versa. Shenzhen is very poor, thus very.. "lun" (in Cantonese), especially near train or bus station. So, that type of thing is highly probable. But, there's a direct express train from HK Hung Hom station to Guangzhou East Train Station and it was pretty nice. Those new express trains are really fast and not that expensive at all.... Well, express train from Guangzhou to Shenzhen cost me 75 (10$US) Yuans and HK Hung Hom back to Guangzhou cost me 190 HKD (around 25$US). Besides, I also heard these type of stories happening in the United States and in Russia. So it ain't just in China. Edit: Omg... I miss HK so much now. ;_;
^ Yup, like you said, the crossing at Shenzhen is not exactly the best route to take. I had a very bad experience there...saw a pickpocket at one of the escalators. Had to carry my backpack in front of me since that incident. Lol.
heard they kidnap girls too in shenzen and sell them off. Know a girl that was scared silly going there...haha
I thought i was the only one with this mentality. Guess not Those mainland people would do anything for money. Geez.
Don't we all? It's unreasonable to use the moral meter stick (of the rich, Western world) to judge a different culture. To a certain extent, people everywhere are "doing anything for money" everyday, even giving up their dignity and precious time in their short life, what gives?
^Well, I would say that education makes a difference. Haha...maybe if you don't use the moral meter stick, you should at least use the 'intelli-o-meter'. Lol. While the educated cheat, lie and steal using devious schemes, the less educated resort to more violent crimes. I would say that those living in the West generally have higher levels of education compared to their eastern counterparts. Seriously, even in terms of general knowledge. You might have a person in the west who's uneducated, but they'd be reading the news, holding a book, always thirsty for knowledge. That's a culture that I really admire.
ive always found it ironic how many asian cultures look up to white people as the ideal human being and insult other races yet fail to realize that white people are racist against every race. Honestly, i find white people to be the most racist race. I understand that all races are racist to an extent, but ti seems like only white people do anything extreme about it
I never thought intelligence has anything to do with education, well, maybe SOME. But I have seen enough PhDs who commits moronic acts on a regular basis while having met a fair number of reasonable people who are much less educated. Resorting to more violent crimes is indeed a characteristic of the uneducated. And most general knowledge came from something richer parts of Europe and North America had been enjoying for a while: compulsory, FREE education for all. But which countries exactly are you trying to generalize by "Western" or "Eastern"? Now is this comment based on "West" or "developed world"? Not all of the "Western" world is rich, nor do the people living in the relatively deprived countries (Eastern Europe comes to mind) necessarily fit into the stereotype of "thirsty for knowledge". Considering the proportion of China still living in rural area and likely illiterate, I think it's not a fair judgment to say they are not such and such or whatnot. To me, the thirst for knowledge is pretty d*mn low in priority if it runs against starving to death or dying of certain pandemic with no means or resources. If anything, this particular comment is directed at gordonng85: I think "willing to do anything to survive" is still slightly (only ever slightly) more respectable than "willing to do anything to get a new house or certain material gain". In which case, those Chinese willing to kill to survive isn't that bad now is it? One just have to do what is necessary to survive. A Chinese proverb sums it well "衣食足則知榮恥": it means that only when one's got a full stomach and clothed would one know about shame and honour. The sense of moral, often associated with shame and honour, is easily instilled in the richer population because they do not have to worry about their empty stomach and possible untimely death by starving. It's just a matter of culture, Chinese people don't even PRETEND to integrate outsiders, they just outright ALIENATE them. Whites as a culture usually pretend to try integrating outsiders. I don't know which one is worse.
well, taking organs in america is harder, since everything is licenced and more looked after, but i guess stealing organs can happen to anyone, and selling it in the "black market" of medicine, damn that's some scary stuff, its like going to the bathroom, get mugged, and died, something like that happened at a mall here, but then it wasn't any organ stealing, it was more of a random murder , but most of the time, i won't go into public bathrooms unless there's other ppl there, it's just a hysterical type thing
LOL I heard this exact same version of this story, but instead of a man, I heard it was a teenage girl -rolleyes
Nope...you got me wrong there. It's not looking up or sucking up to the whites. It's more of respect for them in a different sense. While I respect certain cultures who hold true to traditions and such, I feel that sometimes they are bound by such traditions and practices. Moronic acts by PhDs...true, but well thought out acts. Not so much of brutal violence is there? I understand the 'kill to live' theory, but killing/immoral acts to make a quick buck, now that's what I abhor. It's not that difficult to make a decent living. It's greed that drives people to do stupid things that they will regret at some point in life.
That's why in Mainland China, you always keep your backpack in the front in public places, especially in Shenzhen and Guangzhou, or any other places near poor villages and such.
>. < Never knew it was so rampant until I saw it with my own eyes. Always thought it was a rumour. But now I know...hehe.
I don't think it's greed if the resulting "quick buck" goes directly to one's next meal. And I doubt that they would regret it. China's got the whole "survival of the fittest" mentality... One reason why "educated" people do not likely commit violent acts as their less educated counterpart was partially due to the possible repercussion/punishment... To many people in China, the worst thing that could happen would be being executed and/or starve to death. But to the "educated" in richer nations, many are at stake there, fame, wealth, social network etc. Thus they usually commit more sneaky but less violent acts. Surprisingly, the "poor villages" I have visited are the few places in China where I feel safe. Because they don't actually have the motivation to "do anything for wealth" (they are less aware what wealth can bring them, and the entire village is watching) I am slightly more alert in big cities though, it's just so easy to get away in the sea of strangers typical of urban centers.
cultures that you grew up in will always seem like the best one and those that are similar to it will also be good. However, that's the way every cultures see themselves, which means that no culture can be proven to be superior. It's all a matter of personal experience and preference because of this experience.
