Well, the main thing is that you have to like it, if you don't enjoy the class your taking or whatever. Reading, wrting or even speaking wont come to you ^
i would love to read and write but i heard it's very difficult. fortunately, you seem intrinsically motivated so you'll enjoy it : )
cant read or write either but eh... if you want to learn to write or read its gonna take you a freaking long time ><
i can't read or write chinese!!! it's so frustrating wish i continued with chinese school! guess learning it is a bit too late now :( i'm very good with my cantonese speaking though thanks to TVB! if they introduced chinese subtitles in the 80s then i would have prob been able to pick up the words when watching TVB because you learn better when young but too late now for me :(
karaoke, tvb then read newspapers and magazines to maintain ur chinese so u dont 4get if u dun go to classes
I can speak cantonese, not that fluent tho, but... understandable I guess =P I had mandarin lesson for like.. 8 years, but I still only know the basic stuff =__= I wish I'd pay more attention and tried harder my best back then. But, I've noticed watching taiwanese series and listen/sing chinese songs does improve your chinese. Also, singing karaoke seems to work too ^-^ So yu could try that =) Besides it's fun =D
Most canto people I know (including myself) actually learn Mando from watching taiwanese dramas ^^ Maybe you can try that. Also, Mando music, except those are bad for learning the tones? ^^ not too sure
I'm not particularly skilled in speaking Canto but I can hold my own for the most part. Mandarin I took a few courses in but it's still a work in progress. It's not hard to learn a language as long as you buckle down and do what you need to do. That being said, actually going to Hong Kong or China will greatly improve your chances of mastering a language because you're forced to speak otherwise you'll be in trouble. Force yourself to speak and you'll be amazed at how easy it comes. Also watching soap operas are a good way because their sentence structure and plot dialogue is so basic a monkey could understand it, so just copy what they say until you get the hang of the basics and move up from there.
^ gotta agree with that.... the more you use the language the more adapt you will come with it so it will roll off your tongue much easily....
wtf? why is everyone in hong kong so impolite. its 請問,你貴姓? anyways you can learn cantonese with these websites. http://www.cantonese.sheik.co.uk/ http://cantonese.ca/
