u really only have 3 other options and 2 of them are far fetched at best... Try to deal for Wallace and someone else in Chicago, Jermaine O'Neal or i guess AK47... Jermaine O'Neal being the most probable... but Shaq is so much more though in presence... doesn't matter if Shaq plays only for 2-3 more years... he's still Shaq... he's still 7ft 300lb+ monster... and we all know the man plays harder than most in the playoffs... Seriously... I just think Shaq's numbers are down this year cuz the team in MIA was just terrible... now... if Cleveland can get Kidd... that would make me happy -worship
nope, sorry, that wont work aones, maybe wallace, but look how the bulls turn out, nothing more then a one-two year hype where wallace is definitely not worth the money, no offense in center leading to bad offense overall for bulls. joneal/ak47 are both pfs (im not so sure bout ak47 tbh), but then original plan was to move amare to that spot so he doesnt have to play against big man, plus, joneal (one of my fav players) is all worn out sadly.. so shaq was a better choice :x i actually really like this after reading the articles which popped up the past few days hmmm lol kidd has go to go! either cavs or mavs hurry up already, nets are dead anyways
i agree, i'm all for the Shaq trade to begin with... and honestly i'm tired of the arguement of the "True center"... yeah we get it, we have a shortage of big men in the league... but honestly... can anyone on here define what a "True Center" is? Seriously u can argue Ben Wallace is too short so he should be a 4 man... Tim Duncan IS a center, anyone that argues this point doesn't watch basketball... and Yao Ming is just a really really tall 4 man... he's pure finesse lacks strength and shoots amazingly well... everything Shaq, who has been THE center the last decade, isn't... seriously the 4 and 5 position just can't really be differentiated anymore -rolleyes o and btw AK47 is a forward... a small forward... yes... he and Bargnani are "natural" 3 men... imagine that...-rolleyes
The couple seconds of the 4th were horrible. Took them like 20 secs to foul and it was Bosh who did it and he already had 3... Lol

imo true centers are like dwight howard, chris kaman, shaq, yao, bogut, bynum, camby, tyson chandler, well maybe gasol... illguskas and biedrins, i consider most players who are listed as pf/center as pfs, since they're prob more ocmfortable in that area and play it more often
ok great u named some "true centers"... but what makes them different from someone like Tim Duncan? KG? Al Jefferson? Dwight Howard and Tyson Chandler started out as forwards...
i'm not so sure, i think its the position in which they share on their team that makes me consider them as "true centers" because tim duncan has oberto who plays the 5, kg has perkins, iono who al has, but im guessing he's an exception like a few others (wolves have no definite center, but al is listed as f/c so i guess he's an expection which i'll call a real center) dwight howard has rashard lewis who i think plays pf iono tyson chandler has david west so yeah iono, its hard to decide who's a center it just matters ho they'll fit into the plan i guess, like for the suns. amare was listed a center since marion played pf, so when shaq comes in, amare won't be considered a true center anymore, lol get what i msaying? it's just my view towards the nba no1 wants to play center nowadays anyways, it's too rough
lol then what's wrong with brining in O'Neal from the pacers and having him play center and pushing amare in to the forward position? i mean O'Neal's taller and bigger than Amare... =P
Shaq might be taller, but he certainly isn't younger. -lol But forget about the deal. Phx still can play the same one they've been playing all season with they're current roster. They still got key players like Amare, Nash, Barbosa, Bell, Hill and ECT. The only thing left to do is to wait for Shaq to play and see how it goes.
i think aoes was talking about jermaine o neal, not shaq. jermaine isn't really a true center either. he's like amare, expect a few inches taller and the capability to hit fade aways. but hopefully shaq, won't embarrass himself in his first game with the suns.
In this decade of small ball (belonging to Mike D's suns, also attributed to the start of the run and gun era by Don Nelson's RUN TMC of the 90's), "true" centers dont quite carry the same meaning as it would on a team of more defined positions. A center typically is asked to create offense via the low post, often with his back to the basket and that takes power and finesse. Think to the 90's where u have David Robinson, Olajuwon, Ewing. All had good back to the basket moves and this starts with their power, being able to get the low post position first. But there is no doubt finesse helps each individual accelerate their offensive game. However, compared to the "big" men of this era, there's amare, bosh, dwight to name a few. None of them have that many go to moves in the low post but rather relies on other options....such as amare and bosh shooting 15 footers or dwight catching lob passes. I wouldnt want to say footwork is dead in this era, but to witness the way some of the old centers play vs. what there is today, athleticism has replaced footwork. Thats why a Tim Duncan (or hopefully a Greg Oden) is so rare and valuable. A big man showing footwork and power to get to the rim. Call me old school....but ill take a big man operating in the low post over him taking jump shots any day. It just makes the defense collapse when the big men cuts through the lane. Not a coincidence teams with a Duncan, with a Shaq has won championships recently (even Detroit didnt win it without Rasheed, and he is at his post when he's attacking the paint....the 3pt shot is really just a bonus)
The problem with old school power centers is the influx of international "Big Men"... they don't have the strength to fight power centers of the US, so they bring their superior shooting skills and this is hard for someone like Shaq to handle and causes amazing mismatches when guards try to tackle them... This is another reason why the US hasn't done all that well internationally the last decade...
While the influx of International big men has played a role in revolutionizing the game that the center plays....yet studying history of the past decade has not revealed one team with an international big men that had success winning a championship. Even the Mavs with Dirk lost....so i cant argue that while it is great to have a skilled big man to run through the regular season...the playoffs is geared towards those with enough power and endurance to come out on top. International play aside, every team in the nba would want that big center for their respective playoff pushes
