i can speak and understand it perfectly fine but from time to time in songs i dont understand some of it like if i really listened to it i would get it but it would be the exact meaning and reading and writing i cant do
it's actually possible to pick up reading fr watching tvb dramas with the subtitles...if you can get yourself to follow the words while they speak...although for those that can read the chinese subtitles, you'll know that the spoken bits and the subtitles don't always match up 100%, cos what's said is more colloquial
ye thats the only problem with learning to read from tvb dramas, a lot of what is sed is colloquial and is written differently on the sub.
I can hold an informal conversation, but i do stutter a bit wen talking to parents. I listen but do not always understand canto-music. Find it very difficult to follow the news. Cant read or write chinese.
im cantonese but i find it extremely slang comparing to mandarin. it just doesent seem quite erm... 'professional'? those youngsters' cantonese are even slang and if you watch tvb dramas
i speak fine but don't know how to write the characters. after so long listening to canto pop songs i can actually read quite a number of chinese characters & in the process understanding it. For a person who's not from Hong Kong, reading chinese in canto is actually quite amusing ha!ha!
Yes, TVB definitely made my Canto. The quality of the Canto from the old actors who went through acting school were great for us to emulate. Some of the new kids though need a voice coach, or maybe they just need acting lessons. hehe, An ABC criticizing HK actors on their Canto. Does anyone else speak Chinglish with their siblings? It's fun ain't it?
speaking canto n wrting chinese is diff ex. eat rice saying it in canto n writing it in chinese is diff i dont understand y is canto like that n mandarin isnt weird
because conversational cantonese uses a lot of slang words... probably easier to say and rolls off the tongue easier than saying that actual words...
^ I suppose, but mandarin is the official language. I can only speak canto, but I want to learn mandarin.
Yup.. I speak Cantonese. There are so many wrong pronounciation of words nowadays. As for fluent.. IDK... I guess if you sound like those people in the HK drama.. it's fluent lol..
im not fluent in canto, but i think being able to speak and understand basics is beta than nothing. i can't maintain conversations without adding a few englsih words here and there. I wonder is anyone has this problem but i always say something in chinese and then say "or" (english) and then continue in chinese. I am also learning mando but i think it is easier to know canto then learn mando than vice versa because its harder to learn slang. But i gotta say, pronunciation in both canto and mando is hard.
