Hello -bigsmiles, I think this is thus far the best in 2008 and one of the better ones I've seen in the past 2 years or so. I really love the cast, especially FAT MANAGER (Kent). The plot, theme and everything is good. Steven Ma is great as always and he's really a hidden jewel for TVB. Seems like he's one of the very very few integrity filled guys. The worst thing is FALA. Of all the roles so far, she plays that stupid, brat, biznitch. Her acting is pathetic, and her box face is worst. The more I see her cameos, the more I want to uke: . G-HOE (only OG heads know who he is) yall know who I'm talking about is coming back as the jerk too.
This series is awesome, just like any other series. I like Kent Cheng, man is he funny. He is always saying "Good Boy or Bad Boy", which cracks me up everytime. Steven Ma is one of the few actors that actually has the potential in acting. He does well portraying his character but i can't wait until Steven Ma and Linda Chung finally gets together. Now... about Fala, she always gets the bad character but i guess it matches with her attitude because in most of her series, she is always like a girl that acts like a brat and so on. But i don't really care who's in the series as long as the series is good. Even though... i do watch ever single series for TVB.
^^ Well fala has bad attitude in real life I would imagine. I could never watch the ancient ones unless they were extremely good.
When I watched the first episode of this drama, I get this, "man it's pretty good and I don't have to wait until 3 of 4 episode to get what's going on" type of feeling. What I mean is, from the start of the episode until present, its still really good and you can keep up with it real quick. Linda's character is sorta like me at times I guess, so it's kinda fun to watch at the same time. Steven Ma, is a good actor and I like watching him in dramas. Fat boss is funny and he's this inspirational character. He doesn't just say things to be funny or make sense, but he does it to make good points and teaches people about "facts of life" and that sort of stuff. I like Fala Chan and I think TVB is like giving her a chance to expand her acting but I agree with RockxXD, I think its how her attitude is and look they're given certain roles. But I also think Fala is too "ban yea" (acting/fake) at times =x. I want to rip Linda Chung's stepsister's head off :]
Heya.Rockkxd thanks for this. Well, I think this series is one that I enjoyed the most this yr, up till now. - It has a good storyline - humble and realistic : Long time since I saw artistes wearing shorts at home , casual clothing. - I love the chemistry between the cast : Steven and Kent have awesome chemistry. Linda and Steven much better than their 1st collaboration in Virtues of HarmonyII.Even Kent and his wife (Fei-Ching) has cute chemistry. - The cast is good. Most of them can act and alot has improved. - But I really dislike FALA. She potrays the brat and greedy character well but she says this is a different attempt of hers. The prob is, I find her the same as her other/previous characters.
Ancient series are good as well. If you don't watch it, you're really missing out. Now... back to A Journey Called Life, i argee with Ladyeve because Kent Cheng does teaches you how to handle things. It's not meant to be funny or mean but it's a way to persuade you to do the right things and not go onto a wrong path. Linda Chung actually plays her character well in this series, considering her acting, it seems so real. Fala Chen actually got an award, which was "Show Best Supporting Actress" during TVB 40th Anniversary Show. Yes, TVB is definetely giving Fala Chen a opportunity to increase her ability to act. Too bad this series only has 20 episodes, i wish there was more.
I just hope the ending is good. I thought D.I.E was a good series but then the ending totally killed the show. I don't want to have the same feeling for this series because this series is quite good. I think Linda is doing much better - I wasn't too keen with her on Heart of Greed - she really made a good improvement.
I do watch Ancient series, but not as much. I just prefer Modern ones. DIE was crappy IMO. But, that's why TVB has always been a favorite. It's because they teach you things. It's not a matter of who is given that role. But the 'old timers' carry that role. This is also why, when TVB crosses their line w/ implanted girls on stupid game shows, people complain and ratings drop. Morale for TVB keeps chinese and asiacratics. Fala still can't act though. I think it's partially due to the language perhaps. But she looks lost and unnatural. TVB is very profoundly promoting her as soon as she came under.
Linda definitely improved and she plays a more upbeat role in this one, rather than the always excessively till your annoyed crying one.
I agree with cyl about the Heart of Greed character for Linda, she has improved. (I LOVED HOG) I've always loved actresses who when they cry and use their real emotions to act. When I see that people can do it as if it was real rather than an act, it makes the drama look so good. Tavia is good at that too in my opinion even though her role wasn't so all that in HOG. Bunny is right, most of TVB's dramas really teach you about the right paths, and let you see the good and bad side of both. My boyfriend thinks I watch too many but he won't understand since he never watches any of it, not even in mandarin. I was born in NYC and parents only speak chinese and people wonder how this ABC speak canto and understand chinese so well, and I've always said, "you can learn so much watching tvb and understand more about life, why things happen, what to avoid etc". I think Fala gets those certain roles because if one drama already poses her as that type of a "woman", they usually stay like that for a while because that's what the viewers are used to seeing as her character. There are very few who switch back and forth to good and bad characters, I think. Some actors/actresses get these "bad person role" and not all of them will continue to shine and see them in more dramas you know what I'm talking about? (sorry for gearing a bit away from Journey of Life)
bruce lee in D.I.E. to my knowledge use to be very evil in ancient/modern roles lol. But now in INLAWS 2 he became a gay low and in the D.I.E. he's a good guy. Things do change. Who else.. hmm... The infamous KEVIN CHENG use to be the 'evil' guy in FIRE-FIGHTER (Flaming Heart or whatever), but now he's a lead and that same goody guy. lol Only KE LE FE are the ones that play the same hahah.
Me too!! lol i totally hate her, her acting sucks ass and her character is just that type of bitch you want to slap. I've only watched fala in HOG and think that her character varies a lot compared to that, though her character is the moneygrabbing bitch- she doesnt treat her family that bad (tho there was one eps. when she talked to her mom and bro like shit), she kinda reminds me of those 're-formed' characters- like shes portrayed as moneygrabbing but she'll go through something and it'll change her views on things- ultimately become a ''good person'' and not being so materialistic (same with Roy). anyhoos, i love this series- compared to the ones ive been watching (tai gik & die) it's so much better- probably because i think DIE is too mo liu and Tai Gik is...boring! I initially watched this show for Linda C. but the more i watch it the more i like the rest of the cast too
haha Bunny, that guy who idols bruce lee in D.I.E, hes been acting for a long time now, and i love watching him act, i don't know why. when hes a good guy, hes really good, when hes evil, hes really evil. what's that dude's name again hmm, Samuel Chan. He played some "bad guy-like" character in one of the recent dramas that was finished, and you don't really see him much anymore. Ron Ng, I don't think played any bad person role either but he's not as popular as he was, I guess singing made him go downhill a bit? I like Linda's character in this series though, I think it's challenging for her too because she doesn't seem like the type with a "Fala Chan" attitude. She seems more shy and stuff and to challenge yourself with new roles allows viewers to give them a chance and make the drama worth watching Oh right, also some female actresses stay playing the role of stealing someone else's man and nothing else! =x edit: that hom sup step brother of Linda's was in a few dramas playing the asshole roles, he had some "nice guy" roles but they always have him go back to being a jerk!
The guy that acts as Bruce Lee in D.I.E. is named Derek Kok. Sammul Chan recent series was Survivor's Law II, he wasn't considered a bad guy, even though he did things that made him look bad. But in the end, he was innocent, therefore, he is a good guy. Now, about Ron Ng, The Academy II / On The First Beat was the series that he acted in and he did pretty good in that series. But he will be back in The Academy III and he was also in The Drive of Life. As it seems, he hasn't played any bad guy role. The ham sup or in others words, perverted step brother of Linda Chung is a bad guy but he did get some good guy roles. But yes, sometimes their attitude just matches with their characteristics.
well hmm, i wasnt saying he was playing a bad guy role in survivor's law, but the stuff he did made him look bad and some viewers may be turned off by that too. also, there was one drama i think mod/ancient i guess u'd put it, with kate tsui? he was the bad hubby and stuff. ron ng is okay, i'm not saying he did anything bad but just seems his popularity level went down a bit. didn't know he was filming academy 3 btw, mom mentioned it to me a few days ago and thats when i was like oh? and yeah, i agree with you about the characteristics for their roles
I thought this drama was great! It kept me anticipating the next episode to see what would happen next. And yeah, the humble story line helps to relate to our day to day life, and becomes more real, and imaginable. Steven and Linda have great chemistry together. What amazes me is how Linda has managed to play her role so well. If you've seen her in interviews and such, she's always so sweet and soft spoken, so it's a real breakthrough for her to play such a "wild" character in such a positive, likeable way. On the other hand, I think Fala has done a good job too. You guys hate her, don't you? And that's exactly how she has played her role, to make you hate her. She still needs to improve by leaps and bounds, but she's definitely on the right track.
This series is really good to watch because it's realistic, down to earth, and follows the typical TVB theme of teaching you life lessons. Like my dad once told me, TVB series will never let the evil people win or they are promoting evil and will be taken off the air. The actors are really good. Steven Ma is a great actor and it is always very comfortable to watch him. Linda's role her was good to show her acting abilities and her character is quite cute. Kwok Fung (plays Linda's dad) got a small role and his character is really a useless man who couldn't stand up to his wife when Linda was going to be raped by her step-brother. I haven't seen Kent Cheng in a long time so it's good to see him back.
Ron Ng is a stud and a very popular guy. Sam Chan was super evil in the one w/ Kate and Bosco. The one about tricking people and stuff. lOl Yeah, it's Derek Kok. He has a star eye. hahaha.. Peeps gotta be bad b4 they good.
just watched the first episode, its not bad. don't like the screaming yelling in it but im sure that will stop.
