:puke:My school just implemented a new cell phone policy. that is retarded. I agree that students shouldn't use cell phones during class, but the punishment does not fit the crime. Why should cell phones be put on a list with things such as, drugs and possesion of a knife, that can get you expelled. Secondly, teachers are free to use their cell phones when they want. Is that not just as disruptive to the learning atmosphere? ... THere are so many people pissed about it, I'm interested to see how things will go this week.

    Cell Phone Policy

Rationale:Cell phones are valuable and important communicative devices in today’s world. However, use of cell phones during the instructional day seriously impedes and distracts from the learning process. As a school, we believe that students should be allowed to use cell phones on campus at appropriate times but not during the instructional day due to the impact of these devices on learning.

    Notes and responsibilities:
•Students are to turn cell phones off (not on vibrate) and keep them out of sight during the instructional day.
•Students may only use cell phones before school, at lunch, during passing periods, and after school.
•Teachers will review the cell phone policy and consequences for cell phone policy violation with all their students at the beginning of the year.
•Teachers will advise the discipline clerk of cell phone policy violations by either forwarding a Cell Phone Policy Violation Note or writing an email with the words "Cell phone violation" and the student name, student ID number, and period the violation occurred in the subject line.
•Administrators only will confiscate cell phones if necessary.
•All staff and students must be consistent with implementation of this policy and the procedures below in order ensure the learning process is not impacted or disrupted by cell phone use.

    1st violation - Detention
1.Teacher/staff notifies the student and the discipline clerk of the cell phone policy violation.
2.Discipline clerk records infringement on cell phone violation spreadsheet as a first offence.
3.Discipline clerk calls the student to the office and issues a detention.
    4.Teacher calls parent.

    2nd violation - Saturday School
1.Teacher/staff notifies the student and the discipline clerk of the cell phone policy violation.
2.Discipline clerk records infringement on the cell phone violation spreadsheet as a second offence.
3.Discipline clerk calls the student to the office and issues a Saturday school.
    4.Discipline clerk calls parent.

    3rd violation – Suspension
1.Teacher/staff notifies the student and the discipline clerk of the cell phone policy violation.
2.Discipline clerk records infringement on cell phone violation spreadsheet as a third offence.
3.Discipline clerk writes a referral for student discipline and gives this to a VP.
    4.VP issues a 1 day suspension.
    5.VP calls parent.

4th or more violations – multiple days suspension, possible expulsion recommendation

^haha just leave the cellphone at home then lol....shit back in the day when cellphones weren't present, people survived lol. I guess that's what the high school district is thinking, they want their students to go through the same thing. But i guess life isn't fair so deal with it. or remember to turn your cells off haha.... But they ain't gonna trip out over vibration or one ring in class i think, it's just to scare ya. Well it depends on the teacher.

  5. so uhh... university/college or high school?

eh... the real problem i have with this rule is turning it off while instructing... what's wrong with vibrate?

there are a few problems that can occur... for one thing, emergencies... atleast with my fone, when it's off, I don't get my messages... EVAR... and how many parents actually have their kids' school phone number on their cell or in their heads? second thing is, in case of, knock on wood, a shootout, kids are quicker than the adults with their cell phones at ready its just fact, and its a lot easier for every kid calling someone up than having someone at the office calling each class... this has sorta happened on our college campus good thing we didn't have a stupid rule like that!

seriously if the phone goes off because u forgot to put it on vibrate... that just means u weren't using it for texting and u really were paying attention... it's just a silly mistake... i don't think u should be caught with an actual punishment, other than everyone staring and laffing at you for 2mins...

other than that... those rules are pretty ok with me... i mean u can still use it during passing periods and lunch... not a big deal... but u might want to bring up the whole turning off thing with the school though... I doubt they'll actually expel u after the 4th infraction... more like if it occurs after the 15th-20th time... they'll probably just ban cell phones from u after ur 10th infraction... then expel you haha ;)

just last year may when i got this exam paper for fluid dynamics
a mate of mine had his mobile/cellphone in his pocket with the battery taken out
the vigilator saw that bulky looking thing in his pants and the examination board give him zero marks for that paper just because of having his mobile with him reason
they even kept his phone for two weeks
    how about that heh

high school .. which is why it kind of makes sense..

I guess the thing about the policy is that, I wish that there was some compromise. Some of the rules I believe should be there, but can't there be a give and take? The school is being really strict about it. I mean, your phone falls out of your pocket.. and you get a freaking detention.. that's not fair... and don't go saying "Life's not Fair".. I don't want to learn that lesson yet.. >< The whole reason they put up the policy is that 20 retarded kids decided to cheat on one of the most freaking easiet tests ever by texting. So this is enough reason to put up the rules, but why can't it just be no phones during a test or something.. I just think that they are going overboard..

I guess it makes sense. I think they way they see it. The first 2 offenses are like "you should have known better" scenarios. The 3rd and 4th time they see it as defiance. Which is your cue to bend over and get penetrated.
