ye my old school banned mobiles but everybody just kept it on silent, besides some teachers are lenient and therefore wouldn't do much. also, ppl tend to keep their mobiles hidden whilst texting and stuff. what happens in my old school was just confiscation of the mobile till the end of the day, not detention. thats just too harsh and stupid.

dude... if people were expelled from my school every time someone's phone interrupted a lecture... we'd have a student population of like 4 people.

Cell phones are disruptive and they are a major point of distraction. Further, contrary to what most kids think, students lives and the things that go on in them are not so important (and I absolutely mean that) that they must keep in touch with someone at all times (unless you're the president's daughter).

Teachers and students are not equal, just like you and your parents. So don't even go there. And yes, the world is a very unfair place. You're getting an education, you're not there to socialize. If you don't like it, have your parents take you out of school and home school you; you can text and call to your hearts content. Going to school isn't about bargaining, its about learning to accept authority and conforming. Afterwards, if you choose not to believe in any of the stuff that you learned, then you're free to do as you please. Until then follow the rules.

By the way, if you think I'm unduly harsh, don't. You haven't seen harsh until you've been in the military.

keeping it silent shouldnt be a problem...i hav me headset around me, even in class - cos im in college n i think teachers know that I can be trusted - not to use it, but in some cases - i can when im in me art classes...:)

ye same here, for lessons which don't require much concentration, the teacher allows us to lesson to music so im sure he wouldn't mind us using the phone. besides i'm pretty sure that with one of my biology teachers i can use my mobile in his lesson as he never keeps his phone on silent and sometimes gets a phone call during lesson. unlike other teachers he doesn't switch off the mobile, he just picks it up and goes outside to talk lol.
