Canon Digital Rebel XTi. I love mine and it should fit into your budget quite nicely. :D

canon is good, but in the same price range you can get an olympus camera with better specs.... the olympus is tempting

actually this sony is also looking like a good deal

i know canon is pretty much the best, but for that price range i can only find the 8 MP rebel. or i could go with a nikon D40, but that only has 6 MP, which seems way too crappy for that amount of money anyway.

guess il just look for some reviews on sony's alpha lineup.. wonder how it compares to the Canon lineup

I don't trust Sony with cameras. When a company does too many things at one time, more often than not they will drop the ball. Megapixels are meaningless when it comes to SLR, the higher the megapixel count the larger the image is when you take the shots. It's all about the sensor, in this category, Canon can't be beat.

i saw some comparison shots at high ISO, the canon does look much better around 1600, but at lower ISO like 400, the photo quality looks almost completely the same. the sony also packs in alot more features like anti-shake and anti-dust systems.

id definitely be tempted by the alpha 200, especially cuz iv used sony cameras in the past and can use my memory stick pro duos in there

Canon also sports the same feature. However with Canons, the image stabilization features are built into the lens. Also, the XTi sports a self cleaning sensor.

ye i have to agree with kontra, once u have a camera with enough megapixels, i say 6-7 is about fine for most size photos, its then about the sensitivity of the lens, and quality of lens, as it will then be down to that which determines whether the quality of the photo is gd.

psss... just to let you know.. the sony dslr uses compact flash lol not memory stick :D

^ it comes with a compact flash adapter for memory stick duo's

also sony's alpha 300 lineup has also been released which has alot of pretty slick features as well, but the pricing is about 800 dollars, which puts it out of the budget range.

maybe by christmas time the 300 will drop in price to around $500... but i doubt it, im probably just gonna be looking between the rebel and the a200

  9. yea bbes got it.

6-7 is more than enough, cuz seriously, who needs 8-10 MP? thats as big as a poster..

a regular photo print only needs 3-4 MP.
