Well, got to say Michael Clayton and even Brokeback Mountain weren't the type of drama which is plot driven. As NaS has said, it's character-driven and definitely slow (or at least fragmented, in Michael Clayton's case) until everything fits RIGHTLY together at around the 2 hours mark. People thought Brokeback was bad because it's controversial (gay cowboys? LOL) and was SOOOO slow. And yeah, did I mention controversial? And oh, I made a mistake in the previous post, it wasn't best picture, but earned best director for Ang Lee. But in terms of cinema, script and style, it is similar to many "best picture" films (not to mention Ang Lee's own Sense and Sensibility), thus the confusion. Anyways, Everything was Illuminated was awesome, another "slow" film, but this time it's dry humour with very bright colours. Elijah Wood was pretty good with it (and definitely a role which will get him somewhere in terms of his acting abilities), and the music was super awesome, kind of like a weirded-out, American version of Amelie. XD
Prince Caspian!!! Which was overrated but I was totally hearting the last outfit of Caspian, so I'll forgive its mediocrity. I always has doubts about this film, I mean, it's epic long and boring and preaching and every last thing an interesting action/adventure film SHOULD NOT be. And then there's the whole "wow, we got a really hot-looking lead so let's put him, terribly photoshopped, on the poster, Aragon style". I mean, what the hell is that perfectly sculpted chin-ass doing there? I loved the first film, it was fast paced, intense and definitely fun to watch. Unfortunately, Prince Caspian failed to live up to the excitement of The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. And I haven't even started complaining about the four Kings and Queens not looking their age! Having said that, the film is not without redeeming value of sorts. Lord of the Rings and other epic lovers would be delighted to see the various war sequences which are at once exciting and boring in its sheer obscene length. But besides that? The film is mediocre at best, with the wrong chemistry floating between the wrong characters. I was glad that the story didn't emphasize or rely on the romance or the chemistry between Prince Caspian and Queen Susan, otherwise it would have been a disaster because Queen Susan's got some serious incestous chemistry with High King Peter; not to mention the shocking homosexual vibe between High King Peter and Prince Caspian. It's either that, or I just read too much into the characters. My favourite part in the entire film was when Prince Caspian was tempted, down in the tomb. It was beautiful and intense and oh my, I couldn't believe the development, which is totally a lie, I saw it coming from a lightyear away, just that I couldn't believe that they actually ran with it. The fight in the castle was another gem, but one which I found to be in need of a lot more refining. I mean, yes, it would be fun to know exactly how the strategies works, but then human stupidity, of which the film is teeming full with, is something which the audiences don't need a lot of. There is another thing which is overflowing in the film: smart ass comments. It's one thing to be have a stroke of brilliance pouring through the lips of the characters once in a while, but when everyone starts talking like they were scripted, it became so smug that earned nothing but a series of oh-so-epic eye rolls. All in all, this film isn't BAD. It's just not good. It would have been better without the preaching near the end of the film with the added allies. I wouldn't say I don't recommend it, it's just that I would have second thoughts about seeing the film again, despite all the good-looking characters and some brilliant CGI.
Watched "End of Evangelion" and the first of the "Rebuild of Evangelion" movies. I also ended up watching Into the Wild, and I'm Not There. Might write up some reviews later.
watched street kings, expected more, it was pretty lame. I thought there were just too many popular actors that no one really got shine and keanu reeves don't really have a versatile range of emotions lol....also watched semi-pro, pretty average comedy with some of the top comedic actors in it, will ferell, will arnett, andy richter etc...but otherwise it's kinda a typical will ferell comedy, i have seen better ones though.
The worst part about street king was that half the time they talk too much in slang (plus the mumbling) that I don't get what they are saying. The excessive swearing doesn't bother me though And yes, Reeves doesn't have a whole lot of range... which was disappointing...
^hiake gotta get "slang for dummies" or consult the urbandictionary but yea forest whitaker mumbles alot lol and also he sounds like denzel washington in american gangster haha...very familiar. And the ending was too cliched.....but damn it was soo funny seing hugh laurie with a bald spot....that wheelchair part was probably a nod to his role in house lols. also he had an american accent.
Watched A Few...... Shoot 'em Up....which Wasnt That Good.....but Had The Odd Funny Moments Like When 'smith' Was Smacking That Woman For Smacking Her Kid....and Car Scene With The Dummmy Baby Bit....aside From That Didnt Really Like That Flick..... Die Hard 4.0....which Was Okies....had A Lot Of Funny Lines In It.....a Little Ott In Places But Thats Die Hard Right.. Cj7...with Stephen Chow Which Was Okies....the Start Was Slow.....but Was A Cutee Movie....-^_^
Watched Indiana Jones and The Kingdom of The Crystal Skull yesterday. Was ok...the first half was better I felt, cause the ending was kinda too unrealistic. Nice to see Harrison Ford reprising his role though!
I feel that george lucas has just killed another one of the film series that made him into a legend. I felt like i was watching some sort of indiana jones alternate universe movie the entire way though, it was so unrealistic that i had no feeling for the characters or the plot. It wasn't really an adventure, like the previous jones movies, rather it was a full frontal blast of visual effects and action scenes set to cheesy sound effects. George Lucas's movies have become little more than a display of what is possible with a massive budget and high technology. The previous three movies made me feel like i was participating in a great escapade across the world and at the end lay an amazing climax that would be both expected and unexpected. There was no mystery in this film though; and in every spot which might have served for solid character interaction there was an action/chase scene instead. I dont want to give anything away for those that haven't seen the film yet, but honestly, unless you go in never having seen a previous indiana jones movie you are probably going to be disappointed. For such an overhyped film, it was decidedly unfulfilling. Yes, bettah recognize -batman
was up for some mindless flicks....watched unleashed finally, surprisingly it's not that mindless, pretty good jet li american film i must say, well thats also do to the part that there are some great actors like morgan freeman and bob hoskins... bob hoskins was pretty much insane also the fight scenes look pretty rough. Also watched Dead or Alive, as expected it sucked big time...although theres one hot chick (christie) the other chicks are meh and Devon Aoki is playing kasumi....*throws up* but it wasn't complete crap, some entertaining parts here and there. But it's definitely one of those action flicks that i would like to forget about haha....also WTF using mostly chinese settings and chinese actors to play some japanese characters....thats wack, and the worst part it was directed by a respected chinese action director, although that might be the reason that he was using chinese actors but still...Weird. Also colin chou got owned by a dude who couldn't fight, that solidify this flicks' status as....GAY.
