Death Note: Another Note The Los Angeles BB Murder Cases By Nisioisin image from www.animecastle.com Pages: 176 Price: CAN $21.99/ US $17.99 Plot (as per the book): There's a serial killer loose in Los Angeles and the local authorities need help fast. For some reason the killer has been leaving a string of maddeningly arcane clues, it seems, is an indecipherable roadmap to the next murder. Onto the scene comes L, the mysterious super-sleuth. Despite his peculiar working habits-he's never shown his face in public, for example-he's the most decorated detective in the world and has never tackle a case he hasn't been able to crack. But this time he needs help. Enlisting the services of an FBI agent named Naomi Misora, L starts snooping around the Coty of Angels. It soon becomes apparent that the killing spree is a psychotic riddle designed specifically to engage L in a battle of wits. Stuck in the middle between killer and investigator, it's up to Misora to navigate both the dead bodies and the egos to solve the Los Angeles BB Murder Cases. My opinion halfway into the book: This is the story about the case that involve Naomi Misora (Raye Penber's fiance) in which she cracked the case with the help of L. The story is narrated by Mihael Keehl a.k.a Mello. I really like the style and the book is very hillarious and have a lot of reference to those beloved characters in the serie. Must read for any Death Note fan.
oh i haven't seen the movie. looks like i won't watch it then. but yea totally agree the dark materials is one of the best series of books which i have read. i do agree that it is simply superbly written. side note, for those who haven't read it, i know it starts off slowly in northern lights but if u can get urself to continue reading once u reach page 100 onwards, u become imersed into whats happening and u become addicted. but the first 100 pages isn't particurlarly interesting, its more of setting the scene and introducing u to the characters.
Don't watch the movie, it got awesome graphics, I give you that. But it just fragging spoiled the whole series with the whole "what is daemon" thing. Well, Pullman isn't definitely not Gaiman, I mean, yes, HDM started off kind of slow with all the background about Oxford and all that, but I enjoyed it a lot because it contextualized Lyra's world into something more different than just daemons... I didn't particularly like the bears, thought "Silvertongue" was quite something when it's at work... I loved the fact that every single character, "good" or "evil", are so interesting and have a very developed characterization. I really adored young Perry and Dr. Malone in book 2 and 3 respectively, such depth! It was totally fascinating to see their interactions.
Oooh I read a bit of thar in the bookstore (Yea I freeload but hey ... im a poor student ) It seemed pretty interesting
Hmmm, now I have to decide whether I want to read the original Death Note novel in Chinese or English... Probably not English since I am terrible at English translated names. And OH. I read Artemis Fowl just now, yes, children's book. Some sick ideas in there, but as an crime/fantasy/adventure, I got to say he's got everything under control and kicking it. Plus it's a fast read, like 3 hours? Now I can't wait for the uber-disappointment known as film adaptation.
^ Read it in english, theres a different sort've feeling to it I reckn when you read it in eng esp for detective-like stories. Hah my lil brother reads Artemis Fowl
^ But depending who's translating, there are a few really brilliant Japanese-Chinese translators in Taiwan. Plus, I am more used to it that way... As for Artemis Fowl, I always need something I can finish in two hours or less to make myself feel accomplished (and to not get used to the overly complicated thing known as adult fiction, it can get boring after a few this-is-so-well-written-it-is-worth-a-putlizer writing style) Just finished Anansi Boys by Neil Gaiman, it was quite awesome, in an entirely different way than his collaboration with Terry Pratchett. I wish I have read American Gods before it though. Now I am totally in love with Spider (the intriguing character) and all the modern myths/fantasies I love Neil Gaiman's narration, it is at once mythical and real, and VERY visual with vivid imagery which is very suitable for me. Now I just need to get my paws on Neverwhere and some more of his comic book series -devil
from : Adena Halpern Twenty-nine-year-old Alexandra Dorenfield suddenly finds herself in heaven after an unfortunate encounter with a Mini Cooper. The seventh—and highest—level of heaven to be exact. Her dog Peaches is with her; she is reunited with her beloved grandparents; she has the wardrobe of a movie star; and she lives in the house of her dreams next door to a handsome guy. This is heaven! But there's a catch. In order to remain in seventh heaven, Alex must prove she led a fulfilling life by writing about her ten best days on earth -- if she fails, she will be demoted to a lower level of heaven, where the clothes are last year's styles, the men aren't quite as handsome, and worst of all, Peaches and her family won't be nearby. Her assignment in self-discovery forces her to confront the mistakes she left behind—and inspires her to set things right. Witty and inspiring, this divine debut novel dares to ask a material girl- and the rest of us- what makes life precious? the german cover I read this book right now so funnyand good
oh i've read the artemis fowl series, truly brilliant i thought. yes it is a book for 13-14 year olds but who cares. just bcos it is a childrens book does not mean it isn't gd. it has very creative ideas and is well written keeping u excited the whole time and its a quick read so i would recommend this series of books also. i personally don't think age plays a factor with books its just the english is not written at as high a level as the adult books though tbh the adult books doesn't exactly have english written in a better form as such as at that age ur pretty much there in ur reading skills, its more from the fact that adult books tend to be longer usually. though the english isn't at as a high standard as say the philip pullman books. nevertheless its worth a read from the plot that is within the book and is brilliant when u have a few hours to kill and want to get deeply enticed into a book.
I didn't like the first book in the Artemis Fowl series. Everyone are so smart mouthed it's quite tiring to see them snapping at each other with perfectly eloquent LINES. I mean, it's like CSI Miami gone bad (as if it's not bad enough). It got better in the second and third book though. The character development is without question enjoyable (I adore the centaur) but more to the point, the tricks and deceit in the book is getting more intense than "all-goes-according-to-plan" which gives me the kind of realism I look for in a book. It's annoying to see that everything goes according to plan (which is the reason why the smug Artemis is SO annoying in book 1), a good fight or actual challenge of wit beats best case scenario any day in my book.
Just finished Marjane Satrapi's Embroideries... It's a continuation of her famous Best Seller duo Persepolis and Persepolis 2. Definitive graphic novel intended for an adult audience, the subtlety will not be noticed by youths... And an articulated, dry humour sex joke is as good as any. The drawing style is simple and very French, a la Sempe (who wrote Le Petit Nicolas) but not childish. It is delicate and striking and the use of black and white as light and shadow is brilliant.
try this one who moved my cheese... went to chapters and read it there...took about 3 hours ...small book...but worth the read/ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Who_Moved_My_Cheese

IT IS A LUB STORY ABOUT A GUY RECALLING HIS STUDENT LIFE 20YEARS AGO SET BACK IN THE 1960s AFTER HE HEARS THE SONG 'NORWEIGAN WOOD' WHICH BRINGS HIM BACK ALL THE MEMORIES.... Im back -sorc took me a while eh.....-sweat....huhuhu... Just finished this (FINALLY)....ive been lazyyyy so not that much reading lately hehe.... Title: Dear John Author: Nicholas Sparks Short summary: I dont want to give too much away or else it wont be worth reading at all lol...so heres a brief description The 2 main characters: John: a guy who lives a meaningless life and after realizing that he decides that the only right thing for him to do is to join the army.... Savannah: A typical young american girl who lives on a ranch with her perfect parents and loves to ride horses The two fall in love while John is on annual leave from the army. Although they have only spent a few days together they promise eachother that they will be keeping in touch while hes in the army... My opinion: It was an ok book… although I must say it wasn’t that catchy. It was a book that was very nice and easy to read but somehow it didn’t really touch me. I really like books in this genre but this one was just too superficial…. My point, he could make more out of it….come on… this type of story… army boy meets girl during annual leave, they fall in love n he has to go back to army when their love is hot n sizzling… U do the math… hardly anything in this book stands out I wouldn’t say its funny, nor was it exciting (no scary stories about war), not very romantic…. It was probably a bit sad at times not because of the love between the two lovers but because of John and his dad. Anyways, I still I didn’t feel very sympathetic towards the characters…. he didn’t just go deep enough….Usually I’d really feel for ppl when sad things happen etc… This time it was just too superficial… It was all too cliché and predictable. It was more like the Sunday afternoon movie type of movie script writing. Movies that u just watch to pass the time but u will forget in an instance. This is not a book I will remember for ages… it simply didn’t stand out. As mentioned this is a book that is an OK and easy read material. It’s not that bad because I was still quite curious about “what would happen next… In other words…its not boring… but it just lacks…depth? Probably nice to read when ur at the beach or whatever…but just don’t expect too much… I found it a bit unsatisfying :( especially cuz hes the almighty Nicholas Sparks…come on!! The writer of the well known novel “THE NOTEBOOK”…. Anyways….lesson in all this: high expectations can lead to….disappointments Rating: 5/10

AND ENDS UP MEETING A GUY WHO KNOWS HER SISTER..... NOT A BAD SHORT STORY....VERY DESCRIPTIVE STILL....LOTS OF PLACES WHICH I COULD PICTURE IN MY MIND AS I READ IT.....<3 THIS AUTHOR....!!!....KEKEKE
