ok so I've decided to stay extra year in hs, mainly because i want to prepare myself better for university. My parents on the other hand are not happy about this at all. You guys know how chinese parents are like. I try to talk to them but they won't listen! Any suggestions of what I can do, and plz don't say "don't stay for a extra year". Thx for the help.

I was thinking of doing that, but end up not doing it, and realise staying an extra year does not help uni in anyways....the learning method and the teaching method between high school and uni has a really big difference...
But if you're gonna redo HS for one more year, good luck to that xD

Well if you're dead set on staying another year, just tell them, and when the fall comes, they can't do anything about it.
You can improve your marks for university, as well as take courses that you wanted to but never got the chance. Co-op could help you a lot, if you're interested in a field, take co-op and see if you really like it.

sigh... better universities... do u know what ur major is going to be? decide that first...

now i'll tell u the truth of the world regarding degrees and "better" universities...

4yr degrees are now almost worthless... in this day and age, with so much money flying around, a lot more people are getting 4yr degrees in hopes of better job/pay... fact of the matter is, the name of the University on your degree will only help you the first 3-5yrs after u graduate... after that, your experience, certs, resume, network, etc... will be what gets u the cushy job and good pay...

so if you really are so anal and worried about "better" universities... u might as well go past the 4yr degree and get the Masters instead... graduate in a decent Uni for your 4yr degree, then you'd much have to do a 2yr on the field experience type thing... then u can enroll in a "better" university and get ur Masters there...

regarding being ready for university... i'll tell u straight up now... Uni is nothing like high school... no one will hold ur hand, long nights of studying and virtual death on finals weeks... Homework will no longer save ur grade... it's do or die on exams... professors should be chosen wisely... and u should DECIDE YOUR MAJOR b4 u fck up and change it 2yrs into Uni... be open to people and network, u'll be with the same group of people for atleast 4yrs, this may sound evil and shallow, but USE people and USE the University to your advantage... you'll pretty much learn all of this within the first 6months of Uni... there's nothing that can prepare you for the jump to Uni... the only thing you just have to know is that EVERYTHING WILL CHANGE and you must ADAPT...

    /class dismissed...:Talktohand:

1st year of university is a piece of cake. think of it as an introductory year. you must be soo bad at studying to fail in the first year of university. I didnt feel i was ready for University at the time too and felt quite nervous. but its not that bad, and actually it was exciting and the nerves will settle down and you'll adapt to the new environment. most important thing is make friends asap and you will settle into this new environment and that there is nothing to worry about.

however if you want to stay for another year at HS and get better marks to go to a better university, then yeah, sounds reasonable. although your parents sounds as if they disagree with you and think its a bad choice and as they probably feel they know best due to experience. but if you're not ready, then you're not ready. after all, its your life, and only you know how you feel. no one else does. and hopefully, they'll come round and be supportive of you. the road is there for you to walk and its your choice to walk it, no one can force you to take a different road.

I know what you mean, but to me it's gonna be a waste, you're gonna be doing the same stuff anywaz and gonna be bored as hell.

  13. i would also not recommend it but if you will then just make sure you get straight A's.....

why not go to a community college to prepare for uni... or you can try to transfer over to a prep school that may help...

I'd say do with bigc said and go to a community college. It's similar to high school and you can earn credits for general eds.

I'm pretty sure Uni's will know if you've taken an extra year of high school and I'm not so sure they'll think highly of you because of that.

staying another year woudln't be a bad idea, especially if you don't have an idea of what you want to do w/ your life. But make sure that you don't cave in to the EMOTIONAL pressure!! I had friends who stayed bad and I felt really bad for them when all of us would be tlaking about uni and ..they're still in high school :| but a year older then everyone else. After a while, it really gets to you ... so make sure that things ilke that won't be a big deal to you.

useless imo, i had a 93 percent average in grade 12 with 4 IB classes and i thought i was pretty well off, then in university i dropped to an 82. High school is nothing like university, there is no point staying in HS, its not going to make you better off for your university classes, the only reason to say in high school is if you fail hard in some classes and need to make up your average to get into a university with a higher requirement. But if you don't even know what university you want to go to, then why are you bothering.

Damn, what is with everyone doing IB. People from IB are gonna make my application next year look bad. I just saw in the news where a girl got a 100% overall average in IB...
