I thought my Cantonese pronunciations were excellent... until I saw this: Pt1 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-2jA5gIz_bU Pt2 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ChhbGmoSAVw Pt3 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8fCR5iRirUM Pt4 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=asTMvwEAU54 What's really funny about this is that the "mistakes" that they talk about in the clips are so common that by sheer volume (of regular usage), they threaten to overwhelm the proper original pronunciation. And here's a discussion about the hows and whys of Cantonese mispronunciations: Pt1 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DO_4V7y826c Pt2 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4lCC69eut84 And of course, they blame television What's even more hilarious is their discussion of the mispronunciation of KWONG vs KONG. Phonetically, what they're trying to say is most accurately spelled as GWORNG; where they got their English phonetics from is anyone's guess (perhaps it was the Giles system developed over a century ago, in which just about every Cantonese word was mispronounced and introduced as proper to English academics, who then enforced it with a vengence). -noclue Ralph
yeah. Not hong kong style, guang zhou style. My dad is hk and mom gz. But my parents force me to speak toisan at home. Gay! Screw cantonese learn toisan. ROFL
CHAM JUP..>...CHANG JUP......DEFINITELY NOT SAID THIS ONE...I DUN THINK.... HUI GOR...>....HUI GWOR....BUT DIDNT KNOW THIS ONE THOUGH... GOR HOI....>...GWOR HOI....OR THIS ONE.. GUESS MY CANTO IS JUST LAZZY....-sweat
My dad speaks Toisanese and my mom Cantonese (she's from GZ). Whenever I'm listening to HK radio and stuff I get so irritated by their "lan yum," even if my Canto is probably worse than theirs.
lmao... this proves that i need to work on my canto haha.. but i guess... its still good enough to get around hong kong with no problem
Oh man.. I need to work so much on my canto, guess I need to talk to some of my friends in canto more often..
Yeah, she does. If you listen carefully at how she speaks, its rather ironic that she should host a show on this subject matter. -whistle Ralph
i speak canto...but like with my friends...we speak half and half...half english as wel.. but i think my canto pron.. is alrite..
Children imitate their idols' lazy sound Lots of young singers and actors speak with "lazy sound". It almost like they all have lisp. Unfortunately lots of young kids copy the way their idols speak. I think TVB's Stephen Chen(TVB executive) is trying to retrain all the TVB actors to speak correctly. If you listen to older singers/actors, they all pronounce clearly.
Yes i do speak Cantonese. I can speak it fluently i guess since the people from HK were able to understand me.
hahha ooh damn.. Im sure everyone will laugh at me if they kno how wrong I spell things hahah xD Embarassing!
it's funny that i don't even notice most of the time they say it wrong. maybe i got assimilated already. help me!!!
