I agree. I have read other articles about this scandal. But after reading this particular one, it just makes me even more furious on how people will lie and make frivolous comments just to cover their butts for doing something they know for a fact is wrong. "The audience will understand"??? Who in their right mind thinks that the audience (i.e. the whole world) will understand why they lied just to make China look good?? This ceremony is supposed to not only be just an opening ceremony for the Olympics, but also be a way for China to show the world how great their country is, not how China is a bunch of liars. "The national interest requires that the girl should have good looks and a good grasp of the song and look good on screen," Chen said. "Lin Miaoke was the best in this. And Yang Peiyi's voice was the most outstanding." BS again!! National interest?? How would he know what that is? The nation here is being referred to the people of China. And Chen is basically blaming this big blunder on the people of China. I am not from China but I am still Chinese and I take great offense to this. Don't blame your mistakes on others. "We had to make that choice. It was fair both for Lin Miaoke and Yang Peiyi," Chen told Beijing Radio. "We combined the perfect voice and the perfect performance." Chen is just full of BS!!! How in the world is this fair for the both of them? Nobody would have known who Yang Peiyi (the actual singer) is if it wasn't for this lie that leaked out. If nobody knew about this lie, Lin Miaoke (the lip-syncer) would live the rest of her life and possibly her future career on a lie AND people will call Yang Peiyi a liar (and will be known as a liar) if she or her family tries to tell people that Yang Peiyi sang at the Olympics. How fair is that?? Bottom line: A HUGE mistake was made and Chen and others who are trying to justify this is only making themselves look bad. There is no excuse for what happened. So just stop talking and just admit that a mistake was made and stop putting more shame on yourselves and your country.
she's only a little girl, no one is gona blame her for the lie .... it wasn't her idea to do the lip sync, and plus, who never lied in their life before? and don't say you =O, i know i tell lies every once in awhile, cause the truth hurts.

the olympics is not about little girls singing, it is about competion between nations around the world, and bringing home back gold medal. Sport, funs and game, if there was any cheating or lying in the Olympics, then yah, me beinh Chinese, ill feel ashame BUT, that is not it, and in another week or two, people will forget about this little mischeif, cause afterall ..... time takes everything away

Do you honestly think it's that easy for everyone to forget it? Do you have any idea how many people want China to humiliate and fail? China needs to realize nothing is perfect, and if you do something stupid, you will get caught. China needs to fire whomever that is behind this BS and give an award to the girl who sang the song and apologize to her.
I am chinese, and I think they didn't do anything wrong. C'mon i rather see a pretty face than urs! Don't you understand that China is all about gaining the respect and (face) from the people of China. I can tell you right now, if they did decided to let the other girl sing, more people will complain why they didnt choose a prettier one. Bottom line is that the people in our society just care about gaining the respect from others no matter what it takes. im getting really pissed off reading and watching the news...the olympics started not too long ago, like what? less than a week? and people are already trying to find faults within China. Yes i agree that replacing a cuter girl and making her lip-sync a girl not as cute is WRONG. But come on, fireworks? and hiring spectators as audience? what bullshit is that, seriously who the f*** cares. I dont care if those fireworks are fake, it looks nice. And i agree with some people saying that some of the seats were reserved and not for "paying spectators" to come spectate the sport. Age controversies and stuff are all pissing me off as well. I believe those girls are around 16, 17 of age. 12? They look nothing like 12. If i didnt know i would say around 14 or 15. Who the hell said they were 12? And i think the Chinese Girl Gymnast did perfectly well. And i agree with waistui "If they decided to let the other sing, people would complain". I absolutely agree. This is China's first hosting olympic game and i think they did their best to impress the world. Yes they did a few wrong here and there but once again i agree with waistui, if i spend 40 billion on building something to show the world, i want the best. Its not right, i feel guilty but at least i know my people are not gonna look bad in front of the world. And o right, before the opening ceremony, NBC was on China's ass like "Tibet, Tianenmen Square" and supporting Iran and North Korea etc". This is meant to be happy, why would you have such a sad introduction? Gah, American ignorance!
If china ever needed a apology speech for the world, they could just get edison chen to do it.. he seems to be good at making crap up when saying sorry. or they can just replay it. i think it works good for the situation. ahhhaa
I totally agree with you on that...NBC is super biased........ I watched the women's gymnastics team final on their channel.....right after the usa team failed on their floor routines they made several statements stating how the Chinese team was underaged..... before the final started they first made comments on how the US women has an advantage because they had more experience in international competition..............then after the US lost, they were stating that because Chinese were younger and had less experience would have the advantage because they would have less pressure... total FLIP-FLOPPERS just very UNPROFESSIONAL the Chinese women won because they gave better preformances and US didn't...just accept that..
China is just amazing, people worked so fucking HARD in order to get the gold medal. They'd been practicing at a very young age. What did the Americans do? They just got spirits. "10 minutes on the stage, 10 years of hardwork."
That is EXTREMELY unfair to the Americans and other athletes. I'm sure they've all trained just as hard for this once in a lifetime chance.
