My 10 year old sister has this scrape on the side of her face and my parents tell me that if you consume soy sauce, the scrape will be harder to heal/never heal. Well I cooked a dish with satay sauce which contains soy sauce. And she unknowingly ate some. Is this another one of these chinese bull**** myths like sleeping with your hair wet will give you "fong sup." Now shes freaking out and crying. Apparently my parents and grandparents believe the myth. I don't. How does Soy sauce relate to a cut healing?

I think the soy suace would not cause any darkening of the scar, since the food colur has nothing to do with skin pigmentation. But avoid expose it under the sun.

Soy sauce just contains mainly salty components. Salt has nothing to do with the healing process of the skin, so its harmless really

Like many myths, there might be a hint of truth to it, so it's better to play it safe. And that myth sleeping with your hair wet will give you "fong sup," or headache, I used to do that from time to time and I had this weird numb/headache in the morning so I stop doing it.

This is probably a little water under the bridge so to speak, as it's already been a week; but there does seem to be a Chinese common old wives tale about dark soy sauce and wound healing. Now the odd part is, some say don't eat it because of permanent scarring; while others claim a mild solution of it into the wound to help it heal. (go figure, eh?) <_<

But either way, if something was already eaten with satay; then whats to be gained by scaring the piss out of a 10 year old? Nothing; I would question the parenting skills of the child rearers. (Yeah, I know, I was raised by Chinese parents too.)

Since it's already been a week, I'm sure the wound is probably already well healed. Tell you sister not to worry and that she's: "...as beautiful as ever, and that you'll always love her no matter what she looked like." Like da-uh... it's called child psychology (got 3; when they're not killing each other, they constantly come to you for emotional reaffirmation of their worth).

C'mon! Soy sauce makes the wound darker? As if the human being doesn't have a digestive system.
