Woot! Woot! episode 23 comes out today!can't wait to find it and then download it, and then watch it and then.... opps off-topic there, sorry! got a bit too excited. Anyways heres the real deal How did anyone watch this series? - did you just listen and understand the mandarin? - or did you just rely on the chinese traditional subtitles? - or did you manage to find some english subtitles? - or was someone beside you translating everything? For me I don't understand mandarin that much but I did understand some of it, I mainly relied on the chinese traditional subtitles. By watching this drama I think Ive managed to improve my mandarin vocabulary by a bit.
Oh I see, was it hard finding the english subbed ones? At the beginning when I was going to watch the first episode I was thinking to myself whether to look for a english subbed one or watch it as it is, I wasnt so sure if i was going to understand the mandarin or the chinese subtitles. In the end I found it ok without english subs.
just watch it in mando with chinese subs even though i don't really understand but its a good way to improve your chinese, but sometimes u can get too reliant on the subs
i understand enough mandarin to watch it but i found myself looking at the subtitles constantly..aha sometimes i find myself repeating the word the character just said so I can learn it. Free Mandarin Lessons x)
Up till episode 20 I was grabbing/watching Randomfandsubs english hardsubbed version, but recently they change there policy and stuck it up youtube at 10 x 10 minutes per a section. It very annoying and the quality is really bad. So for episode 20-23 I've been grabbing the RAW version and struggling to watch it as I don't understand about 30% of the mandarine. Still the series is good and I want to finish it.
Lol your smart just like me, same what i did, but i did find myself constantly looking at the subs too. Your very smart Ah, thats a shame, because the storyline was very captivating if you understand every important bit.
I understand Mandarin so I watch it raw on youtube. they usually provide chinese subtitles =) Can't wait to watch episode 24!!! The very last episode!
Yeah but thank god 9 out of 10 times the dialogue I can't understand is between Elaine and her mum, it very strange Mandarin
that language between elaine and her mum i dont think is mandarin but is kinda like countryside taiwanese I think
LOL so it wasn't just heavy accented, no wonder why I couldn't understand it. :laugh2: I do so too but understand around 70% max of that. Better that not knowing any I guess LOL :laugh2:
english subbing wasn't fast enough for me, i was driven to watching it on youtube and using the chinese subtitles to guide me through what I couldn't understand. Like the others were saying, if you are learning mandarin, it's a great way to build up your vocabulary.
no problem for me @ all i speak/write/listen anything in mandarin & cantonese. But i always look @ the Chinese subtitles in any movies or drama, it's a habit
mandarin n cantonese also no problem to me... even elaine and her mum language i also understand.. hehe... if u know thet is very funny d...
Well, i'm from taiwan, so it wasn't hard for me to understand. And as subs are coming slowly, i can't stop watching it.
I watched it on a website called mysoju.com or something like that...it's like youtube or w/e. I use it to view dramas when I'm too lazy to download it.
I wanted to watch this drama so badly, but I can't understand Mandarin at all. Like others it's hard to find subtitled dramas. Boo Hoo.
