I guess......lol. Well, upgrading (or downgrading!) to windows will kinda slow it down alittle, but then there is a program for windows so you can over clock it to upgrade the Mhz which equals more speed. There is a way to over clock it with Linux to but you have to do it through the Bios which is way beyond my skills, but I find windows more practical because of programs and such. Its all personal preference. I like though. Can't go wrong for what you get though for the price and size.
^^ that's because acer aspire one already came out with a 160gb version also so asus eee had to catch up -unsure
most of these netbooks are essentially the same, Intel Atom processor, 1 GB ram, 3 USB ports, VGA port, SD card reader, Ethernet port, WiFi, 3.5mm stereo and mic jack, 100+GB HD, and Web Cam under $500. it mainly boils down to price point, style and HD preference. for me the choice was clearly the Acer Aspire One, it has the lowest price point, decent size keyboard, IMO looks the least toyish, bonus SD card slot, and one of the few netbooks with SSD option. which boots quicker, lower power consumption, and shock proof. the cons are that the SSD version has limited HD space, but can be expanded through the extra SD card slot. mine only came with 512 MB of ram but easily upgradable to 1.5 GB. it comes loaded with Linux but there are drivers avaible for XP.
I've got the original one: Asus Surf 4GB. I upgraded the RAM to 1GB and installed XP on it. It's been really handy, but now I want something with better resolution and more hard drive capacity...all in the same size and weight of course! It's great that there are so many netbooks to choose from now.
try it first, i hated the screen resolution and keyboard size... imo its about 1 inch too small to really be usable. I'm glad I didn't buy it it, it would have just been collecting dust by now. I'm saving my money for a new aluminum 13" macbook lol
nah the original version out in aussie for the 1000h models are all only 80gb the next batch apparently will get the 160gb, not sure if theres any price diffs and the 1000hd comes with the celeron processor, which is slightly more powerful apparently, but then kills the battery life the ssd versions, i guess give a lil time, u can upgrade to the new ssd drives which are alot faster and larger size =) either way, not bad for what it is
yea ur gonna have to wait if u want the ssd versions, they are very expensive at the mo so ur not gonna get them in large sizes.
hmm... i might have to go back on saying i dont want an EEE, if i go to europe il want a laptop thats cheap enough that i can leave in a hotel room and not have to worry about it getting jacked, a 300 dollar laptop might make sense
jsut get the lightest one and get light usb external drives (320gb+) and perfect for travelling =) plus if ur staying at hotel, they've got safes... =)
i had the original 4gb 701 and unless you're really good at linux i don't recommend it , if u insist on an EEE then get the 901 with an adequate hard drive at least 20gb with Windows installed.
I'm on my eeepc 1000H right now. Visit www.eeeuser.com for more information. I'm there, and the people there provide great help!!
I have recently purchased this laptop, Asus 1000H with linux for ~£275. I then got annoyed with using linux so I upgraded to Win XP. I also upgraded the ram from 1GB to 2GB (£17.99) and now its a really good machine. Total cost ~£292.99 Pretty good considering I was going to purchase this with WinXP preloaded for +£300. Only drawback was the time used to upgrade from linux to winXP. Overall i rate this netbook 9/10 btw- good thing i purchased this netbook a week earlier because when i went back to check the status of my delivery, the price of this very same netbook had risen from £275 to ~£284. IMO bargain buy
