i duno y but some of the downloads on this forum are password protected and split into a few files. whats the point in putting a password on the files and whats the point in splitting files into multiple parts? i dun get it... can someone pls explain?
From my observations: the password thing has been really for the older threads, i.e. the earlier uploaders of music.. but dreamstar password protects her files, I think its to prevent people from sharing her links and not giving proper credit. Splitting files, well its obviously easier for the uploader to upload smaller files, i.e. Sharebee has a 100 mb maximum file upload, but they upload files onto 4 other sites so by splitting it you are making links lasting longer. They could also be split for CD 1, CD2 etc. Anyways, I don't see a big problem in splitting files or password protecting them. Uploaders put in a lot of hard work and time in uploading.. They do it in their genorsity to share, and I personally feel that passwords or split files are really problems at all.
lol spilt files could be useful, if u only want CD 1 or a part of a CD or something, say if you downloaded CD 2 somewhere else, and CD one was corrupted, u could just get cd 1 somewhere else, lol passwords is to protect, lol its not really that much of a hassle to type a password, after all , u downloaded their Uploaded file
well from an uploaders point of view some sites (eg rapidshare) give points if people dl ur file and that file is less than 100mb. once u reach a certain amount of points u can get a free premium account with that file hoster. so more parts = more points = more chance getting premium.
split files are rather annoying... especially when its one file split into 30parts or something like that... it's understandable, but i agree it's really annoying... but password protected files aren't annoying are they? i mean the passwords are usually posted right on the post, u just have to read for it... its not that much to ask for is it? =/
well the password protected files arn't really annoying i was just wondering what the point was cos if someone was to use a file that someone else has uploaded then that file will almost all the time have a text file saying where it was from, and alot of the time the passwords are given to you anyway either in the name or the info bit when i use winrar. but sometimes i see something small like an album being split into 4 parts, and the site either have limited downloads per day e.g. megaupload and alot of the time no simultaneous downloads and it puts me off downloading. plus as i was saying, i do apreciate ppl uploading stuff and i know it takes a long time but wudnt it take even longer splitting or uploading several files instead of one? as i said its not bothering me a whole lot, i was just curious in y ppl do it...
why do people still split megaupload stuff when they allow "(maximum 1024 MB)" Of Space? yesterday i had to go through the trouble of finding rapidshare leeching sites to dl a rare movie and it had friggin 15 parts! Splitting is total fail if you are not utilizing the full space given to you by the host and fails even more with count down timers on non paid accounts and dl limits. i feel so dirty for dlin that way *puke*
lol wow shit, 1024 on MU? lol, the parts i find are mostly like 100 each? lol, buti guessits easier to upload, and for the person to download, such as download 4 parts a day instead 15 parts joint together which willl take ages
With MU, if you haven't already done so, you can sign up for free membership and get a bit more downloading limit-I dunno what the limit is, but after you dl a GB or so, you have to wait like 3 hours before you can download again. MU give points to uploaders per DL per file that is under 100 MB, as dragong87 said.
splitting the files just makes uploading safer. they don't have to re-upload everything again if something goes wrong. password is just used to keep the site from deleting it, at least the links will last longer. but that's only for illegal stuff.
took my time to upload stuff so might as well leave a mark and the split thing is usually to accommodate the upload size limit.
I have no problems with split files using winrar where you jsut need to download the parts and winrar and it does it all for you
just speculating but some old "scene" rules (for movies, warez, etc) require the files to be split into exact size chunks etc, maybe that spilled into the p2p zone, but people dont like it now, so less and less stuff comes split. and again for all the reasons above
they want you to waste your bandwidth or just screwing people who download the file. There's a program to find the password.
