for full article http://www.citynews.ca/news/news_27765.aspx this is disgusting!!! so embarassing tooo..i was watfching news and they were filiming rats runing around and climing on windows....it's true that chinatown in toronto is dirty but now its now news and people are goin to think chinese people are dirty....i gota admit i seen big rats before in chinatown but now its just WOW....people need to learn to take responsibility and not just let rodents run around and not even dealing with it...IT'S A RESTAURANT PEOPLE EAT THERE........looks like im not visiting chinatown restaurant for a while
It's not the eatery's problem; rats only go where there's easy pickings. The city of Toronto, like most large metropolitan areas, are rife with rodents in the "under city" (the subterranean maze of subways, electrical conduits, pipes, water mains, basements, sewers, et cetera. The only way to fully control a rodent population is to entice them to a seemingly better feeding ground and then exterminate them. While expose films like the above is always good for headlines, they do little beyond highlighting a problem and bringing ire against some restaurant owner who was probably trying his hardest to keep the damned critters out. The shop owners are the ultimate losers in the end as they're the ones being driven out of business for a problem that even the city government cannot control.
ralph what you state is true but if you really cared to take care of these rodents you would practice better house keeping.... doing clean sweeps of your restaurant every week or so and patch up potential ways rats would be able to get in.
Rats ain't just a problem in Toronto Chinatown but practically all the Chinatown that I have visited. Quite frankly, when I first visited Toronto Chinatown a few years ago, I thought it was a lot nicer than other places that I have visited like San Francisco. I don't understand why these people "presumably" Chinese (no offense intended) just don't take the responsibility to practice good housekeeping. It costs a good amount of money but considering the time and money you invested in your business/es, this is nothing comparing to having to close it down altogether. If not, your business/es will be hurt by the inspection because words get out quickly. Ralph .. when the owner tried and failed to correct the problem, s/he should contact the department of public health for assistance. At least do something before things worsen; not just sit around and hoping to get by without being caught. Think about the customers who frequent the restaurants. If someone was to get sick, you can imagine "lawsuit" will be pounding the eateries; not to mention your own conscience (assuming the owner has one) will haunt you for having knowledge of the problem but still ignore it until someone is hurt.
Indian restaurents are worst I hear. you have to look at the video in low bandwidth. Where can I buy some rats? Anyone knows? I want em as pets like the video/
gosh tthats a bit nasty >< but you cant blame them... its not like they want the rats in there they just come and go =/
is not a surprise at all, every Chinatown has rats and to my surprise that The Bay in DT Vancouver has rats running around at night everywhere...
i think that rodents are controllable and it IS the owner's fault that rodents are running around in their restaurant. It is basic rules in food and safety to practice safe food handling and storage therefore rodents will not be attracted. The first time rodent droppings are discovered overnight should lead to immediate action to "rodent control" and if that does not help then the restaurant should just close down because it is not safe to the customers. There are clean restaurants in chinatown because they take action therefore avoiding rodents in the restaurant.
actually i see your point in that haha but i mean... maybe they dont have the money to spend getting rid of the rodents and what not =/
the kitchens of chinese restaurants in miami are so hard to stand... they're filthy!!! my aunt has a restaurant and it's so embarrassing to walk inside it... a few months ago,,,they actually had to close for one day cause of cockroaches, but it was also from all the card boxes they had laying around.
downtown china town is the dirtyest place in Toronto... i know this first hand i practically raised up down there...family still owns business down there...20+ years. think of it this way if they check carefully all those restuarants down there they will all be out of business....imagine the places in HK... alot worst...chinese people don't have time to keep their stores clean -lol will this stop ppl from eating chinese food? no!
Hmm... I eat at SF's Chinatowns resteraunts all the time.... I wonder how clean they are... >=] Im starting to have my doubts about ABC at Chinatown, SF!
