Last week's broadcast of long 80 episodes series "The Gem of Life" has been grand, last week broadcasted two episodes at once in order to enhance the effects. Also Gigi Lai announcing her retirement from the entertainment circle, making her last tv series ever. The ratings were pretty high, last night's broadcast was 31 poins, peaking at 36 points, the success is not bad at all. But, on the next day ratings only peaked at 30 points, maximum of 28 points, seems like the trend is not flowing. As for last week's finale of "The Four", TV ratings were 30 points on average, while the 2 episode finale last Friday recieved 35 points peaking, the results went as expected. Also last week first broadcast of "Off Pedder", last week only got 26 points, the results are only average. Week 2, Joyce Cheng comes out, the ratings went up to 28 points, which was the highest ratings of that week. But TVB recieved 6 complaints over the phone. They said that Joyce's performance is not natural, her acting was exaggerated. TVB's broadcast department expressed that this is Joyce's first series, everyone should give her a chance. In the beginning, I was thinking, there can't be a worst actress than Kate Tsui. Then Joyce appeared and I thought "Oh I was wrong".
WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT? KATE is far WORST than JOYCE. For a beginner, I think Joyce has done a bang up job thus far. As for KATE, I have yet to see any improvement in her acting and she had been in "how" many series now?? Dude, no offense here but don't make such a stupid comparison. The only reason why Kate has gotten this far in the industry is beyond obvious. In fact, there are a lot of artists at TVB who are trash just like her these days but young people buy it cuz of the look or whatever. Why do you see "quality" veterans are called back in to filming? They need those old artists to carry the show whilst giving these new, inexperience, and probably no talent/potential artist leading role to shine, kick up the ratings, and establish ground. Haven't you notice that a lot of recent TVB show have "old" actors/actresses including Off Peddler with Teresa Mo, her father on the show, and the kitchen lady/housekeeper.
Let me point this out, I hate Kate and her stupid acting. But Joyce acting is just so unnatural. Lets not even talk about her acting, he time she appear on game shows, she was awkward in the way she talks and act. The only reason why Joyce has an opportunity to act in a series is beyond obvious.
thats where tvb went wrong... :( as i have mentioned before i do not think its right to use this kind of method... if u cant act then learn before u go on tv.... if u dont ur just asking for it... this goes for all those who cannot act...
OK .. i just watched ep 8 during my staff meeting ...lol .. Joyce gotta stop talking .. she sounds so "how" .. though i am not sure whether she's acting or that's her natural self .. there are some gals like that .. very bubbly, cute, and sweety-pie type of talking .. starts out nice and sweet but after awhile, it gets to you. Nevertheless, I am not gonna say she can't act. It's just still tooo early to judge now. People hold your horses .. give her sometimes .. yes, she got in through the backdoor (her mom) BUT whether she's gonna make it or not depends on herself. oh yeah, she's FAT BUT ladies, don't hate her cuz she's in the limelight and you're not ... lol
i hope not .. quitting isn't the answer. like someone mentioned earlier .. you will get a lot of complaints being in the showbiz .. you just gotta get over it and use it to your advantage in improving you ability. complaints aren't always BAD .. sometimes it's good for you especially for those who are NEW to the industry. that's like good feedback to me. for someone to call in and blah blah blah .. gotta care enough about the series to say that ....lol
sigh.....its her first time acting... give her a chance..LOL....she'll improve in time....hopefully...
That's what I think too, it's not just Joyce Cheng but all newcomers.. and they do it with singing as well.
That is what I have been saying all these time. You know how actors such as Tony Leung Chiu Wai, Andy Lau, Louis Koo, Chow Yun Fat, and Lau Ching Wan got to become such great actors? Well I do. These actors had training and experience from an Actors Academy. Even after graduating from the academy they don't even get to start acting in supporting roles and main roles. These actors had to start off as Extras. We are not talking big roles here...Extras are basically background performers. And to climb up from an Extra and into a Leading Actor is something that I think not many people can do or will be willing to try. You see my point is actors and actresses nowadays aren't even required to get trained. As long as they look handsome or pretty they will definitely be able to get into big roles. Joyce Cheng, although not being really beautiful, is the daughter of Fei Fei so they let her act in a supporting role instead of an extra. *sigh* If TVB thinks by doing so would really help Joyce Cheng gain experience and position or level of Fei Fei then they are really failing to do so. What they are doing is just being to easy on her. If Joyce Cheng really wants people to know that she can act then she should be able to show that even as an Extra (and this goes the same for many of the new actors in TVB). For one to become better, one must try to challenge herself to become better. Oh and one more thing... I understand how many of you are saying that this is her first time so we should give her a chance, but if we let her improve by having her train more then maybe next time she appears on screen she wouldn't get so much complaints.
