FYI: There are some hic-ups. Slower load time for burned games, sometimes need to power down and up to get disc to go into console when switching games, and sometimes console will stop reading disc in the middle of game play. These things don't happen often but they do happen.

  6. ^ there is a way you can utilize an SD memory card to play games right off of...but that means you either have to delete games often or buy multiple high density sd cards....

Yeah, I heard out that. But if I remember correctly, it's a newer model chip and if you have the "older' chip in, you will need to upgrade.

that only works for homebrews. Wii can only take SD cards till 4GB (tried to use a 8 GB SD card and it didn't work when I tried to play a movie from it). Normal wii games are full DVD size meaning about the 4,3 something GB so there's not enough room on a SD card.

I'll say don't chip it you self. Risk of you doing anything wrong are big and ruin wii.

My sister's boyfriend did something to ours by uploading some software onto an SD card and now we can play burnt games. If you take out the SD card, it will just be a normal Wii console.

I'm unaware of the technicalities involved but it can be done.
