It isn't so much the violence in the video game that is at issue here. What the problem here is that the child has poor impulse control, and had an overriding sense of id (self satisfaction) :p with a very underdeveloped super ego (respect for authority, represented by one's parents). :nono:

Obviously, he not only didn't respect his parents, he didn't even fear them, and considered them a troublesome nuisance that could be easily disposed of simply by murder. Video games (or other simulators) may have perfected his prioritization in targeting selection skills; how to aim and so forth (taking a head shot over a general torso shot), but they certainly didn't teach him to choose to kill his own parents. This individual has a psychological pathology way beyond what can even be suggested by violence in current media culture.

They are two separate and distinct issues.

How drastic is that though.... over a game, must love his halo3. This sort of news gets halo3 good/bad advertising

  9. and he did it in under 2000 words -clapclap

    lol

  10. dann, i know what you mean, and I know it wasn't because of the video game... it could have been a strawberry cheesecake..... lol but when i made that comment i just simply meant, his motive was to gain the opportunity to play the game, therefore, it was a crime commited in sole intent for the video game as a material possesion..

and @ ralph, i always enjoy reading your 2 cents, having taken and many psych courses myself and having a profound intrest in the subject, from the moment i read that first paragraph it i knew exactly what you meant and were the words i was digging in my brain to recall.

lol and dann you should learn a thing or two... 2000 words.... SUMMARIZED.... lol

Under 2000 words? I must have made a mistake somewhere; I usually go for (at least) the novelette length just to get warmed up. Shit, I must be getting old. -bigsmiles

  14. ^ actually my thing is 4000 words, that's twice the recommended limit detailed by the prof lol
