Qian Hongyan, who was forced to use half a basketball as her prosthetic body, has inspired millions recently with her ambition to compete as a swimmer in the 2012 Paralympics in London. Qian swims about 2000 meters a day and trains really hard. “Qian Hongyan studies hard. She never grouches in training although she was confronted with many difficulties at the beginning, ” her coach said. The 10 year-old was injured trajically in an auto accident when she was only 3 years old. To insure her survival, the doctors were forced to amputate her legs. Qian’s family, living in Zhuangxia, China, was unable to afford modern prosthetics and instead used a half a basketball to get around on. Once on the ball she uses two wooden props to help her move around. Qian now has a pair of proper prosthetic legs, but still says she likes to use the basketball from time to time as it is easier for her to get in and out of the pool with. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cb4K...gyan-basketball-girl/&feature=player_embedded link : metro / motherbridge
aww poor girl, she must be real strong though to be able to walk with just her arms. Glad that the public have helped her though
read about this a few days ago.... it really makes you appreciate your own life.. this girl has such a huge problem to overcome every single day when she wakes up. most people would have probably given up, and i wouldnt blame them, i suspect i would as well. The amount of mental and physical strength this girl has is unbelievable. i need to go on a tangent though, about how i read comments on this story like 'Oh, god bless her, may she have a good life' fuck man, its situations like this that pretty much assure to me the simple fact that god doesn't exist and if he does, then he is one malevolent motherfucker. Personally, i hope that some doctor specializing in prosthetics sees her story and offers his/her help to improve her life, I would, if i had the required acumen.
poor little girl.... =( it must b a bit awkward seeing her like this if u didnt know.... but hey its good she likes swimming, shes def a better swimmer than me lol...no doubt since i suck at swimming
sad but i admire the courage and the will to carry on living, hopefully this story is spread out to more people and acknowledge her
shes an inspiration to us all....and at the age of 10 as well...!!... i wish her all the best for the olympics...
n u know wat....i just watched the youtube vid n i read the comments there.... some ppl made fun of her....i mean dude...come on!? *sigh* why are some ppl such dickheads...
in a world where people anonymously encourage others to commit suicide on forums.. its no surprise.. some people are just cold inside.
make me think... 1. I wouldn't give up if I lost my legs/lower body but I would if I lost my sight... 2. The other ppl in the same situation but without the same opportunities (thinking manly of the ppl in Africa and other poor countries)
Wahh, that's so sad. T___T; I wonder how she manages to swim without legs though. ; Isn't that kinda hard? >.<
she is a wonderful example and has to have some kind of motivation to keep going....i hope she wins something in the olympics!!!
would be tough, but not impossible.. you're really fucked if you run out of energy though, cuz you wouldnt be able to tread water
