Has a lot of you been mistaken as Viet? And do you hate it when they mistaken you as one? Cuz some Canto ppl that I know mostly have been mistaken as Viet, and they hated it. Esp if your last name is Ho, Lam, Nam, Ngai, Ng, etc. they would surely mistaken you as Viet. -_-2
no i haven't... even tho my last name is Xuan which is the same as some Viet last name... i've been mistaken to b Indo, Korean and Japanese haha... no one asks me if i'm chinese... bummer...
You are better off than me! At least you looked oriental. When I last worked in Singapore, the chinese there thought that I am definitely not a chinese.
funny i was mistaken all sorts of stuff.......spanish, french, korean, indo, flip....it goes all over the place!!
That's never happened. The closest thing was when a girl said I looked Thai, which still confuses me to this day.
well my last name is Hoang. At school people thought i was viet or japanese. theres this one black guy thought i was white i was like wtf....
im rarely judged as viet but iv been thought of as half chin hlaf viet...its doesn't bother me...chines viet same thing lol
Yeah, once in a while. Dont know some people just mistake me as German or Japanese too. They said I look like one without speaking to them.
cuz i come around some post and see you post your pics and stuff.... besides, isn't that your pic last time that you have on your avatar? the one with that one guy face in an astronaut? -rolleyes it looks so cute.
Yeah, wow... u still remember! -innocent Oh... thanks! Now, I prefer not to show my face anymore since I share some movies/music in the download sections, my identity will be at risk... -dead
Interesting page about Chinese surnames: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_common_Chinese_surnames Chinese surnames have mutated because many CHinese people are now living overseas, and therefore their last names reflects the area in which they are living. For example, a Chinese person living in Vietnam with the Chinese last name "Chan" (陳) would instead have "Tran". Or another example, the last name 王 would be spelt as "Wong" in HK, but "Wang" in Mainland. Same with 李, which would be spelt "Lee" in HK, but "Li" in Mainland. Even in North America, when Chinese people immigrate there, they want to "Americanize" their names so that they can't be identified as a minority. Personally, I too have a 'mutated' last name because my parents are overseas Chinese. As a result, some people can't tell that I'm Chinese, and have to guess what kind of Asian I am. It kinda makes me sad ....
no, i dont feel bad at all if someone mistakens me. I feel as if all oriental asians are chinese, we all came from chinese. Which means we r all chinese. btw, Ho, Lam, Ng are reali reali common chinese name. Especially Ng. Almost anyone that has a last name with Ng at the end of the name is chinese or was once chinese. Leung, chung, cheung, lang, wang, wong, tong, tsang, tang, huang, xiang, even nguyen which is vietnamese.
yupp that happened to me once. everyone in my school (who's not asian) thought of me as viet, jap, or some other..... but i wasn't mad or anything.. :]
