I went to a work training. Yea yea so some people use it as a time to slack off during work. But I was actually there to learn, to learn something new (quite different from my perception of classes when in college). He said he had a lot to cover, guess what we went over a half hour the first day and a whole hour the second day and we still didn't cover all the material. Maybe it's because he wont stop telling stories about - His travels around the world - About his old coworker in which he wrote a book with and why the old coworker quit his job and where he is now -showed up a picture of his cat - about a student from switzerland who stayed with him - about how he knows how to say beer in german, - about his family being french and how he can't understand his grandma even after 6 years of classes - talked about how his wife does like to get her pictures taken - where he was when kennedy was shot -told us why his wife quit her job, about their separate financial accounts, how much money she had to retire blah blah blah - what grade he learned about venn diagranms (sp?) - how he's old (he repeated his one alot) - he showed us his wife's painting - repeats about how people kick him out of the training rooms when he goes past time BAH YOU GET THE POINT
Well, first off, you CAN file a complaint with his boss. Personally, I think he can teach. Some teacher like to throw in this and that to make the class more personal and fun because the material for the class is too boring to sit or stand and talk the whole time. This type of conversation gets students to relax and awake a bit.
Oh i agree he can teach, cause he got through lots of material when he was in a roll, you just hoped that when he was in a roll that something didn't remind him of a story to distract him. Also my manager told me to write my issues into the reviews that they have that they send out via email several weeks later. It was funny so I had two other co workers who went to the same training on different weeks. My manager thought it was great (same teacher) but doesn't remember all the nonsence, and my other co worker knew exactly who I was talking about it when i just mentioned it LOL
lol, it's so annoying and boring s ometimes la cause you get tired of hearing about the person's life >.< reminds me of my latin teacher who is like this too =o=;
I guess it's not so much the person, it was the stories that he talked about in class where you don't or can't relate unlike your manager. It could be the age thing ... lol
First thing that comes to my mind, my physics teacher (for a daunting 2 years): - he hasn't use the chalk board for the duration of 2 years - his lecture consists of stupid flash animations stolen from other schools - he performed one or two experiment (in which the students do not take part) - his common phase is 'so simple' to describe everything but in fact it's not - his accent makes it near impossible to understand him eg. pens down = pants down everyone = evan so: everyone pens down = evan pants down - he likes dragging his syllables out eg. why = whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy some students = sommmmmmmmmmme students electromagnetic = eeeeelectromaggggggggggnetic to be continued...
lol u left out: dot point = dog porn and then he has extreme lag when he talks.......graaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaavitational connnnnnnnnnnnnnnnstant oi evo, remember how both our english teachers dont teach the fat flabby teacher sits there with her fridge size dandruff and talks about mirrors when we were reading othello the gay pink and baby blue shirt teacher just talks about yu gi oh and his daughter and bags out muslims
Everyone had to wear raincoats because the room was snowing dandruff And he wore a "For The Horde" WoW Shirt Back to Physics: - he spits when he talks so no one sits in the front row - he drives a corolla and cant park for shit
lol not corolla......classic toyota CAMRY where 90% of asians in australia own - lol and his hair is always like messy and distracting.....like when he moves, the patch of hair swings from side to side - and he keeps switching off the lights when he shows us his stupid flash animations which makes everyone sleepy
Having been on both sides of the chalkboard, all I can say is that a hard part of teaching is knowing when to appropriately interject personal references and or humor to liven up a lecture, without turning the class into a personal stand up comedy routine. Most lectures these days have feedback processes that allow for post event critique or comments and they should be utilized if there is something less than optimal in the presentation. If there is no formal process, then an anonymous letter to the organization that hosted the event would be in order; to at least allow them the knowledge that their instructor is failing in his or her mission.
That was only an interim thing, and within the health care setting; instruction of health care providers (Continuing Education things like CPR, how to insert intravenous needles, etc); but I only did that for a short time. Still it did give me some insight into how important it is for instruction to be delivered without losing focus.
I think most of these work trainers are contract professionals. Which means they have probably gone through the same materials gazillion times (and can get boring after awhile). Plus, being a professional on a contract job ... you would hope that nothing gets done, the students didn't learn a damn thing or the materials was not covered completely; you might have a chance to come back again and make more money.
